The Northeast Health Districts Childrens Medical Services (CMS) Program is seeking a Registered Nurse (RN) to provide nursing and professional expertise in support of children and youth with special health care needs with a focus on Neurology clients. The RN conducts comprehensive assessments; coordinates care and ensures adherence to CMS standards and guidelines. This position works closely with an interdisciplinary team families and community partners to promote improved health outcomes and seamless care for pediatric neurology patients.


As a Neurology Registered Nurse withinthe Childrens Medical Services at the Georgia Department of Public Health you will join a dedicated group of public health professionals that help support the overall mission andvision of protecting lives of Georgian residents in a variety of ways..

Job Responsibilities

  • Coordinate monthly CMS neurology clinic by working closely with contracted providers to provide clinical services. Assist with other CMS Specialty clinics including Chronic Lung Orthopedics and Genetics.
  • Participate in team meetings workgroups and committees that help shape the direction and priorities of the CMS program.
  • Adhere to CMS service matrix and documentation standards to ensure authorizations for services are appropriate and allowable.
  • Perform comprehensive health assessments for clients accurately identifying and differentiating normal and abnormal findings.
  • Maintain an assigned caseload of neurology clients providing nursing treatments case management and follow-up in accordance with program guidelines.
  • Screen patients to determine eligibility for CMS services complete required documentation and make appropriate referrals.
  • Support families in managing appointments treatments and care coordination with health care providers and vendors.
  • Educate and connect families with available community resources and support systems.
  • Assist adolescents and their families in transitioning from pediatric to adult health care services.
  • Participate in Outreach events

Minimum Qualifications

Associates degree in nursing from an accredited college or university AND completion of a PHN course within one year of hire AND current Georgia Registered Professional Nurse license AND CPR certification. Note: No experience required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Two (2) or more years of pediatric public health or case management nursing experience.
  • Experience working with children and youth with special health care needs particularly in neurology.
  • Strong assessment critical thinking and documentation skills.
  • Documented ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for working with children families and providers and community partners.
  • Proficiency in electronic health records (EHR) and standard office software/
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods during clinic activities community events and office operations.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 25 pounds occasionally (e.g. medical records equipment or outreach materials).
  • Ability to bend stoop and reach when handling files supplies or assisting with clinic setup.
  • Willingness to sit for prolonged periods at a desk and work on a computer.
  • Flexibility to work in both office-based and community-based settings including home visits and provider coordination.
  • Ability to travel within the assigned service area; valid drivers license and reliable transportation required.
