Job Summary

Overview

The School of Social Sciences at Utah State University invites applications for an Assistant Professor of Cultural or Bio-cultural Anthropology. We seek candidates in medical anthropology (broadly defined) who integrate quantitative and qualitative methods and also have a coherent theoretical framework for studying health and well-being. Candidates who conduct community engaged research have research interests related to mental health and/or a record of securing external funds are also strongly encouraged to apply.

The anthropology program at USU further values candidates who can demonstrate collaboration potential with colleagues in the School of Social Sciences in order to strengthen existing academic programs external funding applications and research output.

This is a tenure-track position with a 2/2 teaching load. The appointment begins August 1 2026. Review of applications begins November 14 2025 and will continue until the position is filled. Responsibilities

The role statement for this position is 50% research 40% teaching and 10% service.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in Anthropology or related field from a CHEA accredited institution or international equivalent.
  • Demonstrated ability to live and work legally in the U.S.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Research interests related to medical anthropology (broadly defined)
  • A record of receiving external grants
  • Expertise in mixed methods
