PURPOSE
The Lead Maintenance Technician is responsible for overseeing a team of 3-7 maintenance technicians in providing maintenance and repair services for residence halls and apartment-style living facilities in the University Housing department. The position reports to the Islander Housing Facilities Director and works collaboratively with other departmental staff to ensure a safe and comfortable living environment for residents.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Functional Area 1: Maintenance
Percent Effort: 60%
Supervise train and mentor a team of 3-7 maintenance technicians in performing maintenance and repair work such as plumbing electrical carpentry painting HVAC and other systems.
Coordinate daily work assignments and schedules for maintenance technicians to ensure timely and efficient completion of tasks.
Inspect work completed by the maintenance technicians to ensure it meets departmental and industry standards.
Respond to emergency maintenance requests and troubleshoot complex maintenance issues.
Ensure compliance with all safety regulations and University policies and procedures.
Communicate effectively with housing leadership residents staff and contractors to resolve maintenance issues and maintain positive relationships.
Operate a TAMUCC vehicle and/or golf cart to navigate to and from worksites.
Functional Area 2: Administrative
Percent Effort: 30%
Monitor and maintain an inventory of supplies tools and equipment needed for maintenance and repair tasks.
Keep accurate records of maintenance activities and prepare reports as required.
Attend departmental meetings and training sessions as required.
Functional Area 3: Other
Percent Effort: 10%
Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma or GED.
Three (3) years of experience in maintenance repair or construction work.
Additional experience may be considered as a substitute for the minimum education required: Seven (7) years of full-time experience in maintenance repair or construction work.
Strong leadership organizational and communication skills.
Ability to supervise and train a team of maintenance technicians.
Strong technical knowledge of plumbing electrical carpentry painting and HVAC systems.
Ability to read and interpret technical manuals blueprints and schematics.
Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot complex maintenance issues.
Knowledge of safety regulations and procedures related to maintenance work.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Intermediate skills in computer applications such as Microsoft Office Suite (Word Excel Teams Outlook etc).
Ability to maintain the security and integrity of critical infrastructure which may include communications systems computer networks and systems cybersecurity systems electrical grid hazardous waste treatment system or water treatment system.
Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
Maintain a valid Driver License.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Maintenance work in a university setting is preferred.
Trade school certification or relevant work experience preferred.
SALARY: up to $21.50/hourly.
