The Team
Join the Vancouver Island Child and Youth Mental Health (CYMH) Services teama collaborative multidisciplinary group committed to making a meaningful difference in the lives of children youth and families across the region. We take a person-centered evidence-based approach to mental health care offering early intervention and long-term treatment tailored to the needs of each community.
Our teams work closely with schools healthcare providers and community organizations to support young people navigating mental health challenges. We foster a respectful inclusive and supportive environmentboth for the families we serve and the professionals we work with.

The Role
As a Child and Youth Mental Health (CYMH) Clinician youll support the mental wellness of children youth and families through direct clinical services such as intake assessment treatment suicide risk assessment safety planning and crisis intervention for ages 018. Working flexibly across homes schools communities and offices youll collaborate with professionals including educators healthcare providers Indigenous service organizations and community agencies to deliver holistic care. Campbell River Port Alberni and Port Hardy

An eligibility list may be established for future permanent and/or temporary vacancies for the following locations as well as those listed above:(For more information about a specific location click on the community name):

Parksville Qualicum Comox Valley Victoria Saanichton Duncan Ladysmith Nanaimo and Lantzville.

Qualifications
Education and Experience:

  • Masters degree in Counselling Social Work Educational Counselling Clinical Counselling Clinical Psychology or Child and Youth Care or comparable graduate degree at the Masters level in a similar subject may be considered.
    • NOTE: If your degree was obtained outside of Canada you need to confirm it has been assessed for equivalency through the International Credential Evaluation Services (ICES).
  • Minimum of 1 year full-time equivalent experience working with children and youth and their families with responsibility for providing a wide range of community based mental health services.

Preference may be given to applicants with the following:

  • Preference may be given to applicants who self-identify as having an Indigenous heritage (First Nations Métis or Inuit) with the required combination of education and experience.
  • Preference may be given to applicants with 2 years of experience working with children and youth and their families with responsibility for providing a wide range of community based mental health services.


WILLINGNESS STATEMENTS/PROVISOS

  • You must possess and maintain a valid B.C. Class 5 drivers license (note - if you currently have a valid drivers license in Canada and if you are the successful applicant you must acquire a valid B.C. Class 5 drivers license immediately).
  • May be required to work evening/weekends.
  • May be required to travel to remote locations.
  • May be required to work with families and children and youth who are distressed and facing challenges which may occasionally involve exposure to unpleasant situations or behaviour with angry abusive or abused clients; exposure to hazards from frequently working around parents and/or children in crisis who may display volatile behaviour.

About this Position:
There are two (2) full time permanent opportunities available in Port Hardy one (1) full-time permanent opportunity in Campbell River and one (1) full-time permanent opportunity in Port Alberni.
An eligibility list may be established to fill future permanentand/or temporary vacancies. Temporary offers made from the eligibility list may become permanent.
