Primary Responsibility
Under the general supervision of the Assistant Vice President of Business Services and coordinating closely with the Executive Director of Strategic Initiatives the Grants Accountant supports pre- and post-award budget and management processes for grants contracts and special funds. The position applies generally accepted accounting principles and procedures and serves as a college-wide resource for general ledger and budget system issues assisting Grant Program Managers with grant accounting and working with the Grants Manager to monitor federal and other large college-wide grants.
Pre-requisites for Position (Qualifications Standards)
Education and experience sufficient for the rigors of the position. Examples may include a
Bachelors Degree in Accounting Finance or related field and five years of accounting experience or equivalent education and experience that will provide the necessary knowledge skill and abilities to perform the functions of the position.
Special Skills or abilities related to position: Workday proficiency preferred. Knowledge of acceptable accounting principles; process and budget management; grants knowledge; strong written verbal analytical and organizational skills; experience with standard Microsoft Office software products especially Excel.

Hiring range $75149.07 - $83498.97 annual salary depending upon a combination of education and experience. Essential Duties
Assist in grant management for pre- and post-awards including establishment of accounts in the financial accounting system and ensuring budgets are set up properly allowable costs are understood cost-sharing requirements are fulfilled and re-budgeting of funds is completed when necessary.
Support the Strategic Initiatives Department and work closely with Grant Program Managers to aid in their budget and finance reporting analysis and compliance; and create effective support tools as needed.
Provide technical assistance with preparation of the Colleges annual budget specifically with regard to Sponsored Funds. Work with Grant Managers to ensure understanding of the college-wide budgeting process.
Serve as the Accountant for designated federal and other large college-wide grants as needed. Coordinate with the Grant Manager to monitor reasonableness and ensure compliance with grant rules and restrictions appropriate spending and consistent application of college policies and procedures. Increase organizational effectiveness quality and internal controls for the grant programs.
Along with the Grant Manager monitors expenditures to evaluate whether they are allowable within the terms of the grant or contract while also verifying other critical aspects such as sufficient funds appropriate authorization subcontract activity etc.
Reviews monitors and approves all grant related payroll activity. Prepares adjusting journal entries as needed.
Supports the Grant Manager to reconcile grant activity on a monthly basis by comparing internal records in Excel the Workday Grants Module and the Workday General Ledger. Processes adjusting journal entries and communicates issues as needed.
Provides support to Grant Manager to prepare quarterly annual and closeout reports for funding agencies as requested.
Assists with closing grants in Workday when applicable.
Accurately prepare the annual Schedule of Expenditures of Federal Awards in compliance with annual audit requirements.
Develop and execute grant training for budgeting of grants contracts and special funds; and maintain the grant chapter of the Purchasing Handbook to ensure all levels of grant activity begin with sound financial practices.
Provide effective and efficient customer service to grant program managers and accounting staff all in support of the colleges mission vision and values.
Complete invoicing and/or receiving for grant payments and record deposits in the General Ledger to accurately reflect the colleges financial records.
Compile and analyze data and transactions from the Colleges accounting system to aid in the preparation of statements and reports.
Submit the online EZ Audit annually through the Department of Education website.
Actively participates in the preparation of materials and provides support for any annual Single Audits.
Perform general accounting duties for the Business Services including creation of general ledger entries corrections and interdepartmental charges; reconciling accounts; resolving system issues invoicing and/or receiving funds.
Collaborate on collegewide training and capacity-building efforts to increase literacy among grant program managers and staff ensuring sustainable and compliant practices.
Encouraged to participate in professional development and sector-wide learning opportunities in grants accounting and compliance to bring back innovative practices to CMC.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Special Conditions of Employment
Successful completion of a background check including motor vehicles records check will be required. Incumbents in this position will adhere to all safety and compliance policies of Colorado Mountain College while performing all duties assigned.
Working Conditions
This position requires constant sitting occasional walking standing and driving; occasional handling objects pushing/pulling; frequent reaching with hands/arms and use of finger movements; occasional lifting carrying pushing or pulling objects up to 50 lbs. Constant written and oralcommunication and the ability to reason and analyze and perform calculations occasionally. Work is performed using a computer and standard office equipment daily and driving a vehicle occasionally.
