About the role
The Language Coordinator is responsible for leading and managing the native language programs at Good News Lutheran College Mambourin Campus ensuring that students have meaningful opportunities to learn maintain and celebrate their oral language and other languages. This role involves teaching and supports the Colleges commitment to fostering a multicultural and multilingual environment aligned with the International Baccalaureate philosophy. The coordinator will collaborate with teachers students and families to develop and implement engaging language curricula promote cultural awareness and enhance students linguistic and cultural identity.
Selection Criteria
- VIT Teachers registration to teach in Victoria
- Qualifications supporting and experience in teaching the relevant subjects
- Commitment to the Christian Ethos of the College
- Have excellent relationship and communication skills
Experience and Knowledge
- Previous experience coordinating language programs or similar roles in educational settings preferably within an IB context.
- Experience teaching or supporting native language instruction
- Experience working with diverse student populations and multilingual communities
- Demonstrated success in developing and implementing language curriculum and culture activities
- Familiarity with the international Baccalaureate program and its language requirements is highly desirable.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Lead the design and continuous improvement of native language programs that align with IB PYP MYP and DP frameworks ensuring they reflect best practice and educational rigor.
- Collaborate with school leadership and curriculum coordinators to integrate language learning into the whole-school curriculum in alignment with the Colleges language policy and IB standards.
- Ensure native language programs are inclusive and responsive to students academic cultural and linguistic needs fostering a sense of identity and belonging.
- Develop systems to monitor student progress and engagement in language learning through regular assessments feedback and check-ins.
- Advocate for the importance of native language learning as central to student well-being cultural identity and academic success.
- Design and implement support strategies that cater to individual learning needs including the use of tools such as ILPs visual schedules and behavior management plans.
- Develop and curate culturally relevant and age-appropriate resources that support high-quality language instruction across all school levels.
- Maintain and regularly update a centralized bank of teaching resources curriculum documents and planning tools in collaboration with native language educators.
- Lead and coordinate cultural and language-based initiatives such as language weeks assemblies and events that celebrate linguistic and cultural diversity.
- Foster partnerships with families and the broader community to promote engagement in native language programs and encourage students to showcase their language skills in authentic ways.
