Educational Talent Search Program Outreach Advisor

This Is a Grant Funded At-Will Position For Which The Attainment of Non-Probationary Status (Tenure) is not available. Continued Employment Contingent Upon Funding.

The Outreach Advisor identifies and recruits eligible middle and high school students to participate in the Talent Search program. The advisor will motivate participants and consistently remind them of the importance and feasibility of completing high school and continuing their education beyond high school. The advisor works collaboratively to meet the objectives of the Talent Search project

DUTIES:

• Assists project director in developing educational activities and or programs
• Identifies and recruits prospective participants
• Provides and conducts workshops to assist participants with academic skills interpersonal skills and career choices
• Assists participants with applying for financial aid
• Assists participants with college application process
• Motivate students to complete high school and enter college
• Provide career and academic counseling
• Supervise organize and conduct college campus visits career or cultural field trips
• Conducts postsecondary follow-up of participants until degree or certificate is completed at the relevant educational institution
• Monitors participant persistence and progress in completing high school
• Maintain accurate records compile reports and provide documentation to project director
• Assists Project Director with the creation of materials for project recruitment
• Assist participants with scholarship applications
• Maintains and secures participants personal academic and contact data for required reporting
• Develops an excellent rapport with students parents target school personnel college employees and the public
• Serve on college committees and perform other duties as assigned by project director.
• Comply with all policies of the Alabama Community College System and the College.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelors degree in counseling psychology sociology education or related field from an approved U.S. Department of Education accredited institution required.
• Masters degree preferred
• Successful experience working with disadvantaged youths preferred

• Ability to utilize technology to complete program activities.
• Willingness to travel to and from target schools
• Excellent oral written and interpersonal skills
• Familiarity with federal programs
• Sensitivity to the needs of youth minorities and other persons the project may serve
  

PROJECTED STARTING DATE:
November 2025
SALARY:Salary Schedule C3-8 $37700-$60800. Salary will be based on VERIFIED education and years of VERIFIED related experience that is stated on the initial job application only.

Salary Calculation:For all positions on all Salary Schedules the salary amount for the selected applicant is determined by step placement on the applicable schedule. Step placement is dependent upon the following: (a) all work experience in public education in Alabama and (b) all other work experience outside of public education in Alabama that in the sole judgment of the College directly relates to the requirements of the position. The applicant selected for the position must provide written verification(s) of this work experience within the time provided herein if such experience is to be considered in determining their initial step place on the Salary Schedule.
Format for Work Experience Verifications: Work experience verifications should be in the form of verification letters from employers and must include complete employment dates job title(s) job duties and an indication whether such employment was full-time or part-time and if part-time the average number of hours worked each week. The letters should be on official letterhead and contain an authorized personnel signature. The Colleges official employment verification form is also acceptable and is available upon request. If an employment verification cannot be obtained due to a legitimate reason for purposes of meeting minimum requirements an applicant may submit copies of other trustworthy documentation such as appointment letters contracts pay stubs or W-2 forms documenting the term of employment. However such documentation is generally insufficient for salary calculation purposes if job duties and dates of employment are not self-evident in the documentation.
