Alfred Health is a leader in health care delivery improvement research and education. We are the main provider of health services to people living in the inner southeast suburbs of Melbourne from ambulatory to inpatient and home and community-based services. On 1 January 2026 Alfred Health will come together with Kooweerup Regional Health Service Peninsula Health Bass Coast Health and Gippsland Southern Health Service to create Bayside Health a newly merged health service with more than 22000 employees caring for a community of over 1.2 million Victorians. The new health service will provide people with the best possible care with services that support them throughout their lives. The merger will also strengthen our workforce providing new training education and career opportunities. Subject to final approval on 1 January 2026 all employees from the five health services will transfer to Bayside Health.

About us

Alfred Infant Child and Youth Area Mental Health and Wellbeing Service (ICYAMHWS) is friendly to infants children young people and their families/carers.

We provide accessible mental health services inclusive of family friends and support networks.

We are a specialist multi-disciplinary and intensive care mental health service incorporating the lived and living experience of family peer specialists and youth peer workers.

Our service is divided into two streams: 0-11 and 12-26 years and includes specialist services in the areas of perinatal care neurodevelopmental presentations eating disorders and outreach support.

What youll be doing

Child & Youth Hope is a program within CYMHS that supports children and young people experiencing suicidal behaviour thoughts or are at risk of serious self-harm. Child & Youth Hope team supports individuals and their personal support networks (family friends and other carers) for up to three months helping them to identify and build protective factors against suicide. This is achieved through the programs coordinated care approach which offers psychosocial youth and family peer and clinical support delivered on an assertive outreach basis. There is a particular focus on intervening early to prevent crises prioritising certain at-risk groups (such as young people identifying as LGBTIQA from Cultural or Linguistic Diverse backgrounds and those presenting with neurodiversity or with a co-existing disability). The support offered is extended to the children and young peoples support networks providing a holistic systemic approach to both prevention and aftercare intervention. The Child & Youth Hope model of care was co-designed and is underpinned by the vision of providing timely relatable consistent and adaptable support; working collaboratively with the young person and their network; building and supporting their connectedness to the community; and providing supported transitions and pathways out of the service to ongoing supports.

Wellbeing workers provide children young people and their support networks with practical recovery-based assistance (alongside the support provided by clinicians Youth and Family Peer Workers). The goals of this are consumer-led and aim to assist understanding and beginning to address the factors leading to the suicidal experience. This may include referrals for ongoing mental health supports linkages with community services advocacy supporting connectedness with the community.

About you

We are looking for an enthusiastic motivated and well organised person to join our Child & Youth Hope team.

As well as having a Diploma in Mental Health Welfare Work Youth Work or Community Work you will have at least one years experience of work supporting children young people their families/carers and support networks in a community settings.

Youll also have to complete/provide a valid Victorian Working with Children Check be willing to undergo a background check and youll require Australian working rights.
