Job Summary

Job Summary: The Assistant Director Prospect Management and Research works to proactively identify prospects across all fundraising teams as well as provide strategic prospect research support management of prospect portfolios tracking prospect activity and collaborating around prospect strategies for assigned fundraising teams. Reporting to the Director Prospect Management and Research the Assistant Director proactively works to expand the pool of potential prospects and is timely in responding to research requests from members of the frontline fundraising staff.
The Assistant Director must apply creative thinking and be curious focused and persistent in pursuing threads of information. They should be capable of interpreting complex documents including corporate proxy statements and insider stock filings and possess excellent writing skills. They must be able to identify and adapt to shifting priorities be flexible and resourceful and exercise professionalism and discretion in working with confidential information.

research on individuals corporations and foundations using a wide variety of prospect research resources and prepare confidential biographical and financial profiles for members of the development staff senior management trustee leadership and key volunteers
research requests to determine appropriate level of detail required
the giving capacity of individual prospects
the research needs of assigned fundraisers/fundraising teams
identify and qualify major and principal gift prospects with a focus on assessing capacity and connections to the AMCs
brief research for proactive projects initiated by the Prospect Identification team
as a Prospect ID Liaison partnering with frontline team and associated Prospect Research members in leading special projects to explore prospecting opportunities within the current donor base as well as beyond the AMCs
frontline fundraising staff in prioritizing prospect portfolios and encourage the timely review and assignment of newly identified prospects through re-occurring one-on-one portfolio review meetings and collaborative prospect strategy
the assignment of prospects to portfolios create portfolios for new staff and reassign portfolios for departing staff
accurate up-to-date information on prospects and donors
and disseminate news and information about top donors and prospects
the Assistant Vice President Senior Director and Director Prospect Management and Research aid in process improvement initiatives for the Research team and the entire Development Office
participate in professional development opportunities
and regularly update progress reports
to maintaining positive office morale even in the face of high work volume and challenging periods
on other office-wide duties at the request of Development leadership


Qualifications

This position requires 3-5 years of fundraising or related transferable experience and a bachelors addition the ideal candidate will possess the following knowledge skills and abilities:

Familiarity with a broad range of research techniques including print-based and Internet research searching of electronic databases interviewing and the use of other appropriate sources and methods Strong interpersonal skills Excellent customer service skills with an emphasis on relationship building Tact discretion diplomacy and the ability to deal with confidential information sensitively Ability to work with frontline fundraising officers in a team-oriented approach Ability to work independently and as part of a team; superior organizational project management and analytical skills Honesty and trustworthiness an even disposition and the abilities to interact effectively politely and efficiently with people from all backgrounds Ability to manage multiple clients prioritize and meet frequent deadlines Excellent written and verbal communication skills including strong editing spelling and grammar skills along with the ability to communicate effectively and efficiently with co-workers Ability to anticipate needs and show initiative in managing and promoting new projects A sense of curiosity and enthusiasm towards learning is desired
