Hi-Way Paving Inc. is a leading civil construction company specializing in large-scale concrete paving excavation and storm drainage projects on highways and airfields throughout the southeastern United States. As part of our continued growth we have launched a newly built state-of-the-art Maintenance and Mechanic Shop in Charlotte NC to centralize and enhance the performance of our $25M fleet of heavy equipment specialty paving machinery and vehicles.
We are seeking a hands-on experienced Maintenance Shop Manager to lead this new operation. This individual will combine strong leadership with deep technical knowledge to ensure safe efficient and cost-effective maintenance while building and mentoring a high-performing team. This is a unique opportunity to shape a new facility from the ground up and play a key role in the long-term success of our field operations.
Location: Charlotte NC (with occasional travel to other sites such as Nashville TN and other future project sites TBD.)
What Youll Do:
- Launch organize and oversee daily operations of the new 8000 sq. ft. maintenance facility.
- Supervise and coordinate maintenance diagnostics repairs and service operations for light medium and heavy construction equipment.
- Recruit train and mentor a team of mechanics technicians and apprentices.
- Lead by example providing hands-on technical guidance and supporting complex repairs.
- Prioritize and schedule maintenance activities based on project and operational needs.
- Implement and manage workflow tracking using HCSS Equipment360 or similar systems.
- Monitor work quality and ensure compliance with company safety standards and OSHA regulations.
- Establish and maintain preventive maintenance programs and SOPs.
- Track parts inventory manage procurement processes and coordinate with vendors.
- Maintain accurate documentation of repairs inspections and equipment history.
- Collaborate with project managers superintendents and field operations to maximize equipment availability and reliability.
- Coordinate develop align and integrate employees teams and cultural initiatives within and across Hi-Ways broader organization.
- Manage the shops P&L as well as monitor and report on shop budget cost controls and other performance metrics to leadership.
- Ensure environmental compliance (OSHA DOT EPA and local regulations).
What We Look For:
- 5 years of experience managing or supervising heavy equipment/fleet maintenance operations.
- Strong working knowledge of diesel engines hydraulics electrical systems and heavy equipment diagnostics and repair.
- Proven ability to lead coach and develop a technical team.
- Familiarity with maintenance tracking systems (HCSS Equipment360 preferred).
- Excellent troubleshooting skills and ability to assist with hands-on repairs.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Solid understanding of OSHA DOT and environmental compliance requirements.
- CDL license (or willingness to obtain) and ASE Diesel Certification preferred.
- Experience with concrete paving equipment is a plus.
- Ability to gain clearance for restricted/high-security zones (e.g. airport AOA military bases).
- Willingness to travel occasionally.
- Willingness to work nights and weekends as needed.
- Valid drivers license and a clean driving record.
- Physical ability to lift 50 lbs climb walk kneel squat push pull and enter confined spaces.
