Job Summary

Our client Shelter House is hiring for a Director of People & Culture! Bring your passion for people culture and purpose to a nonprofit thats making a powerful impact in the fight against homelessness and domestic violence.

About Shelter House:

Shelter House was founded in 1981 as a grassroots response to homelessness in Fairfax County. Today were a mission-driven nonprofit with over 100 employees working to prevent and end homelessness and domestic violence. Our culture is built on the values of Inclusivity Collaboration Accountability Respect and Empowerment (iC.A.R.E.) and we take pride in the difference we make in the lives of nearly 2000 individuals each year.
About the Role
As the Director of People & Culture youll be a strategic partner to Shelter Houses leadership team. Youll guide people practices that align with our mission and values while leading a broad scope of HR functions from compliance and benefits to talent development and culture-building. This is a hands-on role with the opportunity to shape how we support and grow our people.

How You Will Contribute
Strategy & Leadership
  • Advise the CEO and senior leaders on people strategy organizational design compliance and workforce planning.
Operations & Compliance
  • Lead the People & Culture team in managing employee relations performance reviews payroll benefits and HR compliance.
Talent Management & Development
  • Oversee recruitment onboarding performance management internal mobility succession planning and training initiatives.
Culture & Engagement
  • Champion a people-first culture by enhancing employee engagement wellness and connection across the organization.
Qualifications
  • 7 years of broad HR experience including 5 years in a supervisory role
  • Bachelors degree in HR Business Psychology or related field
  • PHR or SHRM-CP certification preferred
  • Strong knowledge of federal and state employment laws
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Excellent communication and listening skills
  • High integrity and discretion with sensitive information
  • Collaborative self-motivated and solutions-oriented
Physical Requirements
  • Annual TB test required
  • Ability to sit or stand for long periods
  • Ability to lift 1020 pounds
Salary Range
  • The anticipated salary range for this position is $105000 - $115000.
