POSITION SUMMARY:
The Auxiliary Teacher is responsible for assisting Lead teacher in providing a safe and developmentally appropriate preschool program in accordance with all Office of School Readiness program guidelines. Auxiliary Teacher will have 187 days of service. 180 days of classroom instructional services provided to children and 7 days of pre/post planning and/or staff training. The teacher is expected to work and be compensated based on 7.5 hours of work per day which includes 6.5 hours of instruction and 1 hour of planning with lead teacher.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Assists the Lead Teacher in the implementation of the curriculum with comprehensive lesson plans and necessary materials to ensure premier quality and innovation.
2. Assists the Lead Teacher in implementing a developmentally appropriate classroom environment that reflects the childrens learning and growth
3. Manage classroom maintain control and serve as a role model with clear rules for safety and mutual respect age-appropriate discipline methods and a program that demonstrates knowledge of child development.
4. Assists Lead Teacher in keeping parents apprised daily of room activities and/or childs progress.
5. Maintain accurate classroom records and emergency contact information maintaining confidentiality of information provided by parents staff and administration.
6. Display a positive attitude that is conducive to good public relations.
7. Knowledge of Office of School Readiness policies and procedures.
8. Participate in on-going in-service and educational development opportunities provided by YMCA.
9. Any other task that may be deemed necessary by Program Director Lead Teacher and/or OSR teaching coach.
10. Assists in carrying out small group activities created by the Lead Teacher.
11. Assists the Lead Teacher with all classroom documentation.
12. Supervises students during non-instructional times such as lunch nap time recess etc.
13. Participates in family involvement activities.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
Must be 19 years of age or older; must have a high school diploma or GED; must possess a Child Development Associate credential OR at least 9 credit hours of college coursework in the field of Early Childhood Education or Child Development from a regionally accredited institution. Must possess appropriate experience (at least 12 months) working in early childhood or experience in other OSR approved settings.
