Job Summary
Overview:
At the Harvey Cushing Neuro-Oncology Laboratories (HCNL) at Brigham and Womens Hospital our research is focused on developmental immunotherapy with tumor-permissive oncolytic viruses and tumor immune mechanisms governing high immune tolerance and resistance in brains with tumors. We use advanced DNA manipulation and animal models in conjunction with the latest molecular and immunological tools in our investigation of brain tumors and immunity.
We are looking for an energetic and highly organized Research Lab Technician to perform wet and dry-lab research under the supervision of Dr. Alexander Ling (PhD) and Dr. E. Antonio Chiocca (MD PhD).
Responsibilities:
Good laboratory practices well organized in planning and performing lab work and maintaining procedure records and notebooks are necessary.
Primary Responsibilities include:
- Contribute to lab maintenance and organization.
- Perform complex or novel experiments in areas such as 3D neuroimmune co-cultures oncolytic virus design and characterization in vivo immune assays etc.
- Maintain detailed records of research techniques and results.
- Conduct data analysis of experimental results using software such as Excel GraphPad Prism R and Python.
- Prepare presentations and manuscripts for publication.
- Establish new and modify existing research techniques in collaboration with other lab members.
- Assist with the orientation and training of new team members.
Requirements:
We are looking for a candidate who is able to make at least 1-year commitment to the position to contribute technically NIH-funded grant studies. A long-term contribution of more than 1 year is preferable.
Required qualifications include:
- B.S. in a biology related field with relevant coursework or research experience in neuroscience and/or oncology
- Hands-on experience with routine experimental biology techniques such as mammalian cell culture immunohistochemistry etc.
Preferred qualifications include:
- Research experience with 3D neuro-immune coculture systems
- Familiarity with statistical programming languages such as R or python
- Experience with immunofluorescent staining data acquisition and analysis
- Experience with flow cytometry staining data acquisition and analysis
Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
- Strong theoretical and practical knowledge of laboratory techniques and procedures.
- Familiarity with common laboratory equipment and instruments used in research experiments.
- Proficiency in data collection analysis and scientific software tools.
- Excellent attention to detail organizational skills and the ability to multitask and prioritize tasks effectively.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot technical issues.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills to effectively convey experimental procedures results and challenges.
