Position Summary:

The Department of Psychology within the Charles E. Schmidt College of Science (COS) at Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton FL invites applications for two tenure-track Assistant Professors with expertise in Cognitive or Social Neuroscience.

Research/Scholarship Responsibilities Candidates should have a strong record of research accomplishments demonstrated potential for extramural funding and a commitment to excellence in education. FAU possesses a culture that fosters internal collaboration and innovation as well as partnerships with local national and international agencies and thus candidates must display strong collaborative potential and the ability to conduct transformative externally funded research within their area of specialization.

We welcome applications from any area of Cognitive Neuroscience but special consideration will be given to candidates who use neuroimaging methods to study resilience in late adulthood (e.g. cognitive interventions that promote preservation of brain structure and function compensatory strategies that allow for preservation of cognitive functions etc.). We also welcome applications from any area of Social Neuroscience but special consideration will be given to candidates who use neuroimaging methods to study social influences (e.g. social relations and activities social support etc.) on age-related changes in brain structure and function in older adults. The successful candidates will have access to the universitys MRI Imaging Facility which houses a 3T GE MRI scanner and MR-compatible EEG system.

Teaching Responsibilities Candidates will be expected to teach undergraduate courses in cognitive social developmental or quantitative psychology or in the biological bases of behavior as well as upper-level undergraduate and graduate courses within the applicants area of expertise. Supervision of undergraduate M.A. and Ph.D. students is also expected. Candidates should show clear promise of excellent instructional capacity. They should be able to demonstrate their ability to understand learning differences among students and be able to foster and create educational opportunities where all students can thrive.

Service Responsibilities Candidates are expected to serve on Departmental College and University committees and provide professional service to external entities related to their field of expertise.

A Ph.D. in Psychology Neuroscience or closely related field at the time of hire is required. Post-doctoral experience is preferred.
