POSITION:The School of the Arts at Western Colorado University invites applications for a full-time tenure-track full time faculty position in film. We seek a dynamic teacher-scholar who is committed to student-centered learning professional preparation and inclusive interdisciplinary education. This is an in-person on-campus position on our vibrant residential campus in Gunnison Colorado.

Teaching responsibilities will include current film courses and interdisciplinary courses within the School of the Arts including introductory courses in film as well as introductory and advanced courses in film/media production with an emphasis on narrative production. Secondary teaching and/or expertise in at least one of the following areas is strongly desired: animation photography or AI/emerging technologies. The standard teaching load is 24 credit hours per academic year. We especially value faculty who engage students in high-impact practices such as internships research community-based learning and who participate in our Western Watershed General Education and First-Year Seminar Western Headwaters courses. We value faculty who work to prepare students for a livelihood based on their values and aid students in gaining post-graduate opportunities.

The recently launched School of the Arts at Western serves nearly 100 majors across five disciplines art design film music and theatre. It also provides substantial service to the general education program. The Film program is currently an emphasis under the Communications major but it is in the process of being reconceived as an independent major and minor with the intended launch date for the new major set for the 26-27 academic year. The new hire will play an important leadership role in revising and updating the program in the coming year.

Western supports its faculty by fostering a collaborative and innovative academic community. Our Teaching and Learning Center (TLC) actively engages faculty staff and administrators in cross-campus initiatives designed to reimagine WCUs educational landscaperooted in diverse expertise and committed to continuous growth. The Professional Activity Fund (PAF) provides financial support for faculty engaged in research artistic projects grant writing and other scholarly or creative activities with three application opportunities each year.

SALARY/BENEFITS:$55000-$58000 (Assistant Professor) or $60000-$65000 (Associate Professor) annualized salary. Western offers an excellent benefits package including shared premiums for a comprehensive health insurance plan dental insurance retirement plan life insurance and other insurance options. After one year of employment Western provides free tuition for dependents enrolled full time in undergraduate programs for up to four years.
