The Faculty of Science at Stellenbosch University (SU) plays a significant role in positioning SU as a leading research-intensive university through excellent research outputs with impact produced by acclaimed researchers.

It provides general formative education in the natural sciences to students in science and other faculties to prepare them for the future world of work; and impacts on societies and communities through various actions and projects related to the expertise in the faculty often in alliance and collaboration with research councils governmental organisations and industry partners. The Faculty consists of eight dynamic departments housed in a number of buildings on the main campus where teaching and postgraduate research are supported by ultra-modern technology and highly qualified and experienced staff.

The research institutes and centres which operate under the auspices of departments in the Faculty of Science strengthen the teaching and research programmes of the faculty.



The Academic Coordinator is to lead and support the strategic planning coordination design evaluation and implementation of academic renewal initiatives within the Faculty of Science ensuring alignment with institutional policies regulations and systems. This includes working closely with the Vice-Dean: Teaching and Learning and the APQ (Centre for Academic Planning and Quality Assurance) to track progress facilitate academic renewal events and leverage data and research to inform module and programme development. The role involves liaising with various stakeholders ensuring the effective operation of committees such as the Science Learning and Teaching Programme Committee and the Programme Advisory Committee for STEM and overseeing accurate documentation and reporting. Additionally the incumbent is responsible for drafting and revising implementation plans and guidelines related to language assessment programme renewal and moderation ensuring alignment with institutional goals and trends in STEM education.

Die Fakulteit Natuurwetenskappe by die Universiteit Stellenbosch (US) speel n belangrike rol in die posisionering van die US as toonaangewende navorsingintensiewe universiteit deurdat gerekende navorsers uitstekende navorsingsuitsette met n ho impak lewer. Dit bied algemene formatiewe opleiding in die natuurwetenskappe aan studente binne die Fakulteit asook aan studente van ander fakulteite om hul toe te rus vir die arbeidsmark; en het n impak op samelewings en gemeenskappe deur verskeie aksies en projekte wat verband hou met die kundigheid in die Fakulteit dikwels in samewerking met navorsingsrade regeringsorganisasies en industrievennote.

Die Fakulteit bestaan uit agt dinamiese departemente gehuisves in n aantal geboue op die hoofkampus waar onderrig en nagraadse navorsing ondersteun word deur ultramoderne toerusting en hoogs gekwalifiseerde en ervare personeel. Navorsingsinstitute en -sentra wat onder die vaandel van departemente in die Fakulteit Natuurwetenskappe funksioneer versterk die Fakulteit se onderrig- en navorsingsprogramme.



Die Akademiese Kordineerder moet die strategiese beplanning kordinering ontwerp evaluering en implementering van akademiese vernuwingsinisiatiewe binne die Fakulteit Natuurwetenskappe lei en ondersteun en verseker dat dit met institusionele beleide regulasies en stelsels ooreenstem. Dit sluit in noue samewerking met die Visedekaan: Leer en Onderrig en die ABG (Sentrum vir Akademiese Beplanning en Gehalteversekering) om vordering te monitor akademiese vernuwingsgeleenthede te fasiliteer en data en navorsingsuitsette te gebruik om module- en programontwikkeling te pos behels ook skakeling met verskeie belanghebbendes ten einde die effektiewe werking van komitees soos die Wetenskapsleer- en onderrigprogramkomitee en die Programadvieskomitee vir STEM (wetenskap tegnologie ingenieurswese en wiskunde) te verseker en om toesig te hou oor akkurate dokumentasie en verslagdoening.

Daarbenewens is die posbekler ook verantwoordelik vir die opstel en hersiening van riglyne en -implementeringsplanne met betrekking tot taal assessering programvernuwing en -moderering en om te verseker dat dit in met institusionele doelwitte en tendense in STEM-onderwys ooreemstem.

Duties/Pligte

  • Coordinating the design implementation and evaluation of all academic renewal tasks and projects for the Faculty.
  • Coordinating driving and administering academic renewal funding opportunities.
  • Planning coordinating and co-facilitating the Science Learning and Teaching Day and regular science-related academic renewal workshops and training sessions.
  • Participating in institutional events workshops and professional development opportunities.
  • Managing the annual Faculty Yearbook revision project which includes ensuring correctness and completeness of submissions for approval and the effective execution of all steps of the
process.
  • Serving as secretary for the Science Learning and Teaching Programme Committee ensuring effective communcation accurate record-keeping and timely execution of action items.
  • Maintaining a repository for all documentation related to programmes and modules offered by the Faculty of Science including specification forms assessment plans moderation reports and
module frameworks.
  • Ensuring the alignment of the academic offering with institutional policies regulations and systems.
  • Ensuring that faculty-level implementation plans and guidelines are updated in response to policy changes institutional developments or recurring issues identified through Faculty processes
and student feedback.

  • Deelname aan institusionele geleenthede werkswinkels en professionele ontwikkelingsgeleenthede.
  • Bestuur die Fakulteit se jaarlikse Jaarboekhersieningsprojek insluitend om die korrektheid en volledigheid van voorleggings vir goedkeuring en die effektiewe uitvoering van alle stappe van die
proses te verseker.
  • Dien as sekretaris vir die Wetenskapsleer en -onderrigprogramkomitee en verseker effektiewe kommunikasie akkurate rekordhouding en tydige uitvoering van aksies.
  • Onderhou n bewaarplek vir alle dokumentasie wat verband hou met programme en modules wat deur die Fakulteit Natuurwetenskappe aangebied word met inbegrip van spesifikasievorms
assesseringsplanne modereringsverslae en moduleraamwerke.
  • Verseker dat die akademiese aanbod in ooreenstemming is met institusionele beleide regulasies en stelsels.
  • Verseker dat implementeringsplanne en riglyne op Fakulteitsvlak bygewerk word in reaksie op beleidsveranderinge institusionele ontwikkelings of herhalende kwessies wat deur
fakulteitsprosesse en studenteterugvoer gedentifiseer word.

Job Requirements/Pos Vereistes


  • A postgraduate qualification in the Natural Science-related field or education at NQF level 8 or an equivalent qualification.
  • At least five years experience in a higher education institution with a focus on learning teaching and assessment.
  • Proven experience in programme/curriculum renewal or programme/curriculum development initiatives.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate with all academics professional support staff and external stakeholders.
  • Good presentation training and facilitation skills.
  • Excellent project management and problem-solving skills.
  • The ability to work independently as well as in a team.



  • n Nagraadse kwalifikasie in n Natuurwetenskap-verwante veld of opvoedkunde op NKR-vlak 8 of n gelykwaardige kwalifikasie.
  • Minstens vyf jaar se ervaring by n horonderwysinstelling met n fokus op leer onderrig en assessering.
  • Bewese ervaring in program-/kurrikulumvernuwing of program-/kurrikulumontwikkelingsinisiatiewe.
  • Uitstekende kommunikasievaardighede en die vermo om met alle akademici professionele steunpersoneel en eksterne belanghebbendes saam te werk.
  • Goeie aanbiedings- opleidings- en fasiliteringsvaardighede.
  • Uitsonderlike projekbestuur- en probleemoplossingsvaardighede.
