Job Title: Assistant Teacher

Department: Early Learning

Reports To: Program Management

FLSA Status: Exempt

General Summary:

The Assistant Teacher supports the Teacher in providing high-quality early education experience for children. This role includes assisting in the implementation of curriculum maintaining classroom organization and promoting a positive safe and inclusive learning environment.


Major Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist the Teacher in planning and implementing developmentally appropriate activities and lesson plans aligned to program curriculum and standards.
  • Support childrens learning and development through active engagement small-group facilitation and individualized attention.
  • Help maintain a clean organized and safe classroom environment; set up learning centers and materials daily.
  • Observe and document childrens progress behavior and milestones; share insights with the Teacher to inform instruction and family communication.
  • Communicate effectively and respectfully with families regarding classroom activities and childrens development following confidentiality guidelines.
  • Assist with daily routines (arrival meals toileting rest time transitions) while reinforcing health hygiene and safety practices.
  • Promote positive guidance and social-emotional learning using program-approved strategies.
  • Monitor supervision and ratios consistently; ensure children are accounted for at all times.
  • Support the creation of a welcoming culturally responsive environment that affirms all children and families.
  • Prepare materials organize supplies and help with classroom displays and documentation of learning.
  • Participate in team meetings professional development and coaching applying feedback to practice.
  • Follow all program policies and procedures including mandated reporting licensing and health/safety requirements.

Requirements

Education and/or Experience

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • CDA in Infant/Toddler or Preschool (or ability to obtain within program timeframe) preferred relevant college coursework in Early Childhood Education Child Development or related field.
  • Experience working with young children in a group setting preferred.

Special Recruitment Events

Recruitment is everyones responsibility to ensure all programs are fully enrolled. To that end all staff is responsible to participate in special community or recruitment days. Some of these days maybe on weekends and staff are still required to participate. The following days are mandatory:

  • Focus: Hope Walk / March
  • Spring Bling
  • Family Fun day
  • And specialized days that are identified from the Program Director or management

In-Kind

All staff have a responsibility to support the program to meet the non-federal share (in-kind). Staff are strongly encouraged to recruit parents to volunteer within the program. Additionally staff are also encouraged when possible to support the program by recruiting community members for volunteers and personal donations. When purchases are voluntarily made to promote the program those expenses can be used as a donation and can be claimed as in-kind.
