THE DIVISION:
The Economic Development & Regional Planning Division is charged with supporting the Department of City Planning City Planning Commission and City on a wide range of issues related to the equitable economic development of NYC neighborhoods with a focus on physical development and non-residential space. The division is responsible for data collection and analysis of employment neighborhood business activity commercial and industrial markets workforce and access to opportunity to help the City understand its economic health. The division leads planning studies and initiatives of citywide scope for the agency provides advice on the application of policy to individual land use review applications and working with other DCP divisions and the Executive office sister agencies like the Economic Development Corporation (EDC) Department of Small Business Services (SBS) Office of Management and Budget (OMB) and Housing Preservation and Development (HPD) City Hall and other City and State agencies assists in setting and implementing policy priorities and objectives that support the citys long-term economic and sustainable growth. The division is also responsible for communicating and coordinating DCP and City initiatives and priorities with other governing entities throughout the larger New York metropolitan area and acts as an essential resource on regionally scaled trends and planning issues.

THE ROLE
Under direction of the Director and Deputy Director of the division this position will be an integral member of the EDR team contributing to research and policy development on topics affecting the city and regional economy and supporting the development of neighborhood and citywide planning proposals. Typical tasks will include:

- Quantitative research on economic issues; for example around the health of the industrial sector or storefront vacancy trends;
- Qualitative research around business typologies and challenges developed via desktop research stakeholder outreach and field visits;
- Produce PowerPoint presentations that include summary insights graphics and data visualizations for internal agency briefings and external audiences;
- Represent the division and department at internal and external meetings preparing for meetings and providing summary notes;
- Serve as project support on ongoing neighborhood studies including producing neighborhood economic assessments and participating in policy development for neighborhood plans;
- Maintain manage process and analyze databases that inform the agencys economic work studies;
- Provide direct feedback on work programs to Director and Deputy Director;
- Perform other related tasks and projects.

Qualifications :

1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university and two years of satisfactory full-time experience in city planning; or

2. A satisfactory combination of education and/or experience that is equivalent to 1 above. Graduate
education in city planning urban planning urban design architecture landscape architecture transportation engineering public administration economic development or related fields may be substituted for experience on the basis of 30 graduate semester credits from an accredited college for one year of experience. However all candidates must have a baccalaureate degree.

Special Qualification Requirements

Assignment Level III
To be eligible for placement in Assignment Level III individuals must have after meeting the minimum requirements one additional year of professional experience as described in 2 above.

Assignment Level IV
To be eligible for placement in Assignment Level IV individuals must have after meeting the minimum requirements two additional years of professional experience as described in 2 above.
