Austal is delivering multiple naval shipbuilding and sustainment programs for the Royal Australian Navy Australian Border Force and the Department of Defence employing approximately 1000 people in facilities in located Western Australia Queensland and the Northern Territory.

Austal has entered into a landmark Strategic Shipbuilding Agreement (SSA) with the Commonwealth of Australia launching a new era of continuous naval shipbuilding within the Henderson Defence Precinct and across Western Australia. As Australias Strategic Shipbuilder Austal will start by delivering eighteen Landing Craft Medium and eight Landing Craft Heavy vessels for the Australian Army.

The SSA will drive significant growth across our industry and workforce as we deliver existing and future programs under a long-term partnership. Through effective collaboration with our supply chain partners Austal is driving innovation developing sovereign capability and creating lasting opportunities for Australian industry and workers.

To support this growth we are building a highly skilled team to engage with local industry and supply chains and contribute to complex large-scale projects that reflect Austals proven capabilities and trusted performance.

About the Opportunity

As a key member of the Supply Chain team the Material Management Officer will work closely with the wider Supply Chain and Engineering to ensure material codification and cataloguing standards are met and that material information is available for use across Austal projects.

The role is responsible to the Material Management Lead for the accurate and timely provision of routine codification and maintenance of inventory catalogue data.

Whats Involved

  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders to support effective supply chain operations.
  • Collaborate across departments and Austal entities to ensure material requirements are clearly defined and available for procurement and inventory control.
  • Enact and maintain codification and cataloguing policies processes and procedures ensuring compliance and accuracy in material classification and documentation.
  • Implement inventory control methods such as ABC analysis EOQ and JIT to optimise stock levels reduce costs and minimise stockouts.
  • Provide support for obsolescence management through supplier liaison catalogue updates and fit-form-function assessments.
  • Analyse material usage and procurement data to provide informed recommendations on inventory holding and supply strategies.

Youll Need

  • 5 years relevant experience within a Marine Support Engineering Manufacturing or Defence organisation
  • Working experience in a computerised ERP environment
  • Experience with and understanding of asset management standards systems and processes
  • Experience with and understanding of codification and cataloguing
  • Cert IV in Material Logistics or Supply Chain Operations
  • IFS ERP experience (desirable)
  • UNSPSC cataloguing experience (desirable)
