Job Summary

  • Permanent Full Time  9 day fortnight 
  • $77133.68 per annum plus Superannuation

Provide inspection and supervision of all works carried out within road reserves and other Council owned assets to ensure compliance of the Road Management Act 2004 and other regulations codes and relevant state legislations  

What youll be doing:

  • Provide guidance and supervision to contractors working in the Hume City Council ensuring compliance with Council standards policies and legislative requirements. 
  • Record and check location to ensure that it complies with Councils standards policies and state legislative requirements. 
  • Ensure compliance of conditions and or restrictions on all road management permits issued. 
  • Inspect proposed work sites for conflict with Council and service Authority Assets. 
  • For vehicular crossings parking bays and drainage connection undertake where required a pre-works inspection to ensure works are carried out in a safe manner and comply with Councils Infrastructure and Safety Standards. 
  • Review Traffic Management Plans to ensure adequate warning signs lights and barriers are provided within the permit for work site conditions. 
  • Where inspections are required during the works ensure that pavement compaction and drainage backfill meets Councils specification. 
  • Receive and record details including reinstatement notices of damage caused by service authorities and ensure ongoing compliance with specified conditions. 
  • Collate details of reinstatement works confirm details and measurement on sites and determine priority.  Issue instruction/documentation to City Works and/or Departmental staff for action and supervise reinstatement of works. 

The skills and experience youll bring to the role:

  • This incumbent is accountable for the efficient conduct of assigned duties in accordance with the objectives and responsibilities of the position.   
  • The incumbent is required to make sound technical decisions selected from a range of alternatives based on experience to ensure that any problems are remedied promptly and in the best interests of Council.  Guidance and advice are always available. 
  • Extent of authority is subject to the level of delegation from the Technical Services Coordinator. 
  • The incumbent is required to exercise initiative and sound independent judgement within relevant legislation Council policies procedures and guidelines. 
  • Understanding of personnel practices including those related to Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) and Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) and the ability to provide contractors and subcontractors (road and drainage) with supervision and guidance. 
  • The ability to plan and organise work to achieve specific and set objectives. 

Required Certifications & Qualifications 

The following qualifications and experience are required for the position: 

  • Post-secondary qualifications in civil construction or relevant experience in a Local Government environment or similar. 
  • Construction and maintenance work experience in civil and concrete construction. 
  • Current drivers licence.
