Role Summary
The FSP Peer Success Coach role engages regularly with an assigned caseload of approximately 10-15 students who are eligible for the Fostering Success Program. Peer coaches are expected to send out regular communication to students schedule meetings plan/promote/market and execute events and connect students to SET Department staff campus and Stevens Point community resources and support.

SET Department Mission
The Office of Student Experience and Transformation (SET) aims to provide support to pre-college and college students who need help with their transition to the UWSP campus community. SET serves as a welcoming campus resource that provides academically and culturally integrated transformative experiences. Fostering Success Program Summary
Implemented in the 2022-2023 academic year the Fostering Success Program is designed to provide support for students who have previously experienced out-of-home placement. This includes experience with foster care or other out of home placements legal guardianship or other court appointed statuses orphaned or adopted legally emancipated minors housing or food insecurity and low(er) socioeconomic status. Students in this program also receive other benefits including eligibility to attend the LEAD Summer Bridge Program before their first year at UW-Stevens Point welcome baskets special academic year programming social enrichment activities exclusive access to the FSP personal hygiene pantry and meeting regularly with a peer success coach and SET Department professional staff.
Fostering Success Peer Coach Responsibilities:
Meet regularly with LEAD/FSP Programs Coordinator.
Engage on a regular basis with assigned mentee caseload of 10-15 Fostering Success Program eligible students meeting/communicating in person virtually through emails and phone/texting.
Availability to work up to 10 hours per week through combined SSC office hours and in the field for student meetings/activities/events.
Be respectful of all students and their lived experiences at all times; this includes but is not limited to engaging in active listening answering FSP student questions and connecting them to SET Department staff campus and community resources and supports as needed.
Independently plan promote market and execute regularly scheduled events activities and outings.
Order and/or prep necessary equipment supplies and catering/dining for events activities and outings.
Abide by all Student Success Center SET Department and UWSP policies and procedures.
Promote SET Department and UWSP mission and vision at all times.
Maintain organization and cleanliness of Student Success Center when holding office hours.
Complete administrative tasks such as answering calls and emails ensuring students sign in on SSC kiosk during SSC office hours and completing documentation in Navigate and other programs.
Demonstrate responsible leadership to ensure program goals are met.
Fostering Success Peer Coach Qualifications:
Be enrolled at UWSP at least part-time (*Minimum of 6 credits or more).
Be in good academic standing (*Minimum of a 2.0 GPA or higher).
Knowledgeable about UWSP Campus (Academic resources residential life campus activities etc.) especially those that may pertain to students with lived experience in the foster care system OR willingness to learn.
Demonstrate a level of maturity and responsibility that shows ability to work with minimal supervision both independently and collaboratively with others in a team setting.
Ability to effectively support FSP students in both 1:1 and small group settings.
Fostering an open friendly and engaging environment that supports and respects the diverse needs of ALL students is a requirement.
Have working knowledge of trauma-informed care practices OR willingness to learn.
Ability to effectively address sensitive concerns of students professionally compassionately and confidentially is also a requirement.
Flexibility to adapt quickly to last-minute schedule changes and/or pivots in planning.
Fostering Success Preferred Qualifications:
Sophomore standing or higher.
Majoring in Social Work Sociology Psychology Human Services or any other related majors.
Lived experience with the foster system out of home placement housing or food insecurity emancipation orphaned/adopted guardianship or the State court system.
Identifies as a student of color LGBTQ self-identifying students low-income and/or first-generation student.
Knowledge of SET Department Centers Programs its operations resources supports etc.
Experience as a mentor coach or other related leadership position.
Experience with end-to-end planning marketing and coordinating events.
Experience with Canva or other design software OR willing to learn.
