    QUALIFICATIONS:
    1. High school diploma or equivalent and passage of Kern High School District proficiency test; audio-visual and teacher aide courses desirable.
    2. Demonstrated knowledge of and the ability to assist in instructing reading writing and mathematics or reading readiness writing readinessand mathematics readiness as appropriate.
    3. Ability to follow oral and written directions.
    4. Knowledge of basic clerical procedures.
    5. Ability to learn library and/or computer skills.
    6. Ability to work effectively and harmoniously in multiethnic environment.
    7. Bilingual ability may be required depending on assignment.

    REPORTS TO: Principal

    JOB GOAL: To assist in providing well-organized smoothly functioning school environment in which students benefit from instructional program.

    PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
    1. Assists teachers specialists counselors and other staff in reinforcing instructional program and guiding students in development of desirableacademic and social skills and habits.
    2. Works with small groups of children under direction of member of certificated staff.
    3. Assists with checking care preparation and arrangement of instructional materials and equipment.
    4. Assists with yard duty first aid and home contacts.
    5. Assists with recordkeeping filing and other clerical duties as appropriate to program funding.
    6. May be assigned to assist in classroom library computer instruction in-school suspension and/or community contact activities.
    7. Models personal and profesional values of equity integrity caring collaboration and personal and collective accountability.
    8. Performs other related duties as assigned.

    SALARY: $17.93 - $ 29.23 per hour

    EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the Districts Improvement of Professional Services handbookBoard Policies and Procedures and consistent with collective bargaining agreements when applicable.

    NEW PROBATIONARY EMPLOYEES AND PERMANENT EMLOYEES WHO BECOME PROBATIONARY UPON RECLASSIFICATION:

    A new employee or a permanent employee who is changed to a new classification shall serve a probationary period which shall not exceed six (6) months of duty time exclusive of leaves of absence or other absences. During this probationary period the employee must meet the required standards of performance to be recommended for permanent status in the classification. A probationary classified service employee may be terminated from the probationary classification at any time without cause without right of appeal or hearing before the Board of Education. Pursuant to Education Code section 45113 a permanent employee who accepts a promotion and fails to complete the probationary period for that promotional position shall be employed in the classification from which he or she was promoted.

    REQUIRED TEST:

    SPANISH LITERACY TEST
    by appointment only if selected for bilingual vacancy.

    MINIMUM APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS

      1. Two years (48 semester units) of study at an accredited college or university
      2. Associates or higher degree from an accredited college or university
      3. Passage of BCSD Paraprofessional Test
      4. CBEST

    Copies of required certificates transcripts or diplomas may be submitted with application. District may require that originals be presented for verification prior to employment. Please check with Human Resources regarding acceptable documents. For positions requiring college course work official transcripts will be required upon employment.

    CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

    Some positions may require proof of privately owned automobile insurance and the possession of a valid California Motor Vehicle operators license. Fingerprint clearance by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the California Department of Justice is a condition of appointment after all other required job conditions have been met. Must present verification of completion of Child Abuse Mandated Reporter training or obtain verification within six (6) weeks of hire and annually thereafter as required by the California Child Abuse Neglect Reporting Act.
