The Director of Customs Customer Support for DHL Express Americas will lead direct manage control and develop the DHL Express (DHLE) Customs Support function position DHL Express Customs Services as a core value proposition and a differentiator in the market for our internal and external customers. Liaise with Ops IT COG commercial and other stakeholders to analyze what the regulatory changes mean to our service offerings and consequently will prepare and coordinate changes/proposals that guarantee compliance and add value to the addition it will also coordinate relevant communication campaigns and liaise with stakeholders to distribute marketing/informational materials. The Director of Customs Customer Support will also drive and implement the strategy related to Customs Customer compliance satisfaction and business development:
Customer Satisfaction: Develop strategies andgive direction to regulatory projects and customer solutions ensuring adherence to laws and regulations and DHLEs customs capabilities in particular promote and drive data quality from Customer as needed to ensure compliant service offering.
Business Development: analyze regulatory frameworks (current and new) and DHLs capabilities to understand impact to service offerings and proactively work with other functions to offer suggestions that can improve our services.
Trade Knowledge Support: Review interpret (in conjunction with regulatory affairs and knowledge support whether regional or local or both or other stakeholders) and inform the company and our customers of new and pending laws or regulations that would potentially affect our business practices as well as those of our customers.
The Director of Customs Customer Support reports to the Vice President of Customs and Regulatory Affairs for the Americas.
Key Responsibilities:
- Acts as a single point of contact for Customer Operations Group (COG) Sales and other pertinent internal teams to provide input on customer inquiries and opportunitiesincluding contract direction and transparency on customs activities towards Customers
- Designs regional customer solutions and tools to ensureadherence to laws and regulations and DHLEs customs capabilities while also supporting or driving the design/communication/implementation of global solutions/tools
- Interprets and communicates regulatory expectations tointernal and external stakeholders including key customers in order toexecute solutions objectives in compliance with applicable regulations
- Closely coordinates and collaborates with global functional leader of Customs Customer Support aswell as with counterparts and other colleagues in various regions to ensure unified input into cross-functional lines of business.
- Works closely with the VP of Customs and Regulatory Affairs and the leaders of: Regulatory Affairs International Trade Affairs Legal Customs Compliance Security and country operations and regulatory affairs and commercial teams on strategy and implementation of industry needs solutions and regulatory and legislative changes and its impact
- Provides leadership in terms of advice training SOP review and development and guidance in the area of Customs regulatory requirements and DHLEs customs capabilities
- Educates communicates DHLE functional teams (directly) and customers (indirectly) on customs regulatory changes
Qualifications:
Education & Experience:
- Bachelors degree as a minimum and/or an active Customs brokers license or other extensive qualification majoring in Customs/External Trade Law.
- 10 years of experience in customs technical areas as well as customs and trade legislation is needed; Preferred in a role driving customs compliance programs in a multinational company.
- Understanding of Logistic/Express business is required (minimum 5-10 years within the industry);
- Extensive experience customs audits including supporting or defending roles is preferred including in-depth understanding of the customs determinations during audits cases or disputes.
Knowledge skills and Preferred Qualifications:
Limited domestic and international travel may be required.
