About the position:
The Grounds Worker II provides technical work and direction in the upkeep of lawns and grounds surrounding facilities and structures for the North Carolina National Guard located in Raleigh NC. Employee performs grounds maintenance tasks and provides oversight of the grounds maintenance contract. Work assignments involve the standard application of horticultural practices to include the maintenance of roads drives parking areas removal of storm debris snow and ice during inclement weather. These services also include the mixing and application of herbicide/pesticide chemicals fertilizing mulching weeding mowing trimming pruning seeding and removal of dead foliage. Employee prepares requisitions for supplies materials and equipment needed for grounds department and provides cost estimates for expenditures to maintain the grounds and equipment. Must be able to make minor mechanical adjustments to equipment such as tractors mowers and other powered lawn equipment and ensures all grounds equipment has up to date service records and are cleaned/maintained regularly.


This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) withState Benefits.

If selected for this position a new salary will be recalculated taking into consideration the quantity of relevant education and experience funding availability and internal equity. Knowledge Skills and Abilities / Competencies

Management Preferences


Per 5 CFR 731upon appointment applicant must be able to obtain a favorable suitability and fitness determination from a Tier 1 background investigation conducted by the Office of Personnel Management. Failure to obtain a favorable determination may result in termination of employment.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Some state job postings say you can qualify by an equivalent combination of education and experience. If that language appears below then you may qualify through EITHER years of education OR years of directly related experience OR a combination of both. See details.

High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two years of progressive experience in horticultural work; or

Associates degree in agriculture and natural resources greenhouse and grounds maintenance horticulture technology landscape gardening or closely related field from an appropriately accredited institution; or

an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Necessary Special Qualifications May require North Carolina Commercial Drivers License.
