Job Summary

Applications are invited for appointments asPost-doctoral Fellow in the Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences The University of Hong Kong (Ref.: 533297) to commence as soon as possible for 2 years with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance and availability of funding.

Duties and Responsibilities

To conduct research on the numerical modeling of giant-planet magnetospheres with a primary emphasis on Jupiters magnetosphereionosphere system. The successful candidate will lead and analyze global magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) simulations of solar windmagnetosphereionosphere coupling perform datamodel comparisons and collaborate closely with Prof. Binzheng Zhang and other DEPS researchers.

Requirements

  • a Ph.D. degree in space physics magnetospheric physics or a closely related field
  • demonstrated expertise in global MHD simulations of planetary magnetospheres; candidates with direct experience modeling Jupiters magnetosphereionosphere system are strongly preferred
  • experience working with high-performance computing (HPC) environments and large-scale numerical codes for space plasmas; proficiency with scientific programming (e.g. Fortran/C/C/Python) and Linux is an advantage
  • Experience with datamodel comparisons (e.g. Juno Galileo) is desirable
  • possess a good command of written and spoken English
