Boston Public Schools

Founded in 1647 Boston Public Schools (BPS) is the countrys oldest public school district. With approximately 49000 students from over 114 different countries and nearly 10000 employees (including 4800 teachers) BPS is the largest school district in Massachusetts with a diverse portfolio of schools. With 34 diploma-granting secondary schools and programs the BPS Office of Secondary Schools coordinates central support at the district level in Educational Options Postsecondary Initiatives Career and Technical Education (CTE) Early College (EC) and School Counseling. Our goal is to design enriching school experiences so that every BPS student has the opportunity to graduate with a rigorous education leading to postsecondary success career and life readiness.

Position Description

Boston Public Schools seeks a Postsecondary Readiness Coordinator to support the district-wide rollout and continuous improvement of the My Career and Academic Planning (MyCAP) in grades PK-12. MyCAP is a student-centered holistic multi-year advising and planning system designed to guide students in their academic personal/social and career development from elementary through high school. Its implementation supports key district goals including MassCore completion advanced coursework access attendance and engagement graduation rates and postsecondary enrollment and success. This role is central to advancing personalized advising and career-connected learning (CCL) by building school-level capacity coordinating aligned efforts and supporting effective implementation strategies district-wide.

The Postsecondary Readiness Coordinator will focus on helping schools adopt and strengthen MyCAP systems that guide students in setting and pursuing academic personal and career goals. This includes supporting new elementary and middle schools as they onboard into the MyCAP process and partnering with schools already implementing MyCAP to improve and sustain their practices alongside other members of the district MyCAP team. The role will also deepen schools integration of career-connected learning by strengthening partnerships and expanding access to real-world learning opportunities aligned with students addition to school support the person in this role will coordinate tools timelines and strategic resources to strengthen the overall MyCAP system.

Reporting to the Assistant Director of College & Career Advising Programs the Postsecondary Readiness Coordinator will work closely with colleagues across the Office of Secondary Schools as well as school teams and community partners to ensure all BPS students receive high-quality advising and access to meaningful college career and life readiness experiences.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Support School Implementation of MyCAP (PK12)

  • Provide direct coaching training and technical assistance on the BPS College & Career Planning Portal and systems to school-based MyCAP teams tailored to school context and staffing models
  • Support the successful onboarding of new schools into the MyCAP system including implementation planning team building and resource adoption
  • Partner with existing MyCAP schools and teams to strengthen practices deepen impact and ensure long-term sustainability
  • Assist schools in aligning MyCAP work with district expectations DESE guidance and postsecondary readiness goals
  • Organize and attend relevant meetings with school teams to inform district initiatives aligned to MyCAP

Advance Career-Connected Learning (CCL) Integration

  • Collaborate with school teams and college career and life readiness partners to expand student access to high-quality career exploration and work-based learning opportunities
  • Help schools identify and implement career-connected experiences that align with MyCAP planning and individual student goals
  • Contribute to the development of implementation models and career awareness strategies in middle grades
  • Support schools in coordinating CCL-focused events such as career fairs or partner showcases that promote exposure to future pathways

Resource and Project Management

  • Maintain and improve MyCAP implementation tools planning guides and training materials for school and district use
  • Track and manage timelines resources and progress toward MyCAP related goals and milestones
  • Provide project management and logistical support to the Assistant Director of College & Career Advising Programs to ensure high-quality execution of priority projects and initiatives
  • Contribute to professional learning experiences such as the Seamless Advising Summit and district learning communities

Contribute to System Improvement and Data Use

  • Collaborate with technical teams to improve the functionality of MyCAP tools and support school use
  • Monitor MyCAP engagement data identify trends or gaps and use findings to inform targeted support strategies
  • Document promising practices implementation and delivery models and lessons learned to support continuous improvement
  • Support development and piloting of tools that guide student decision-making related to school and pathways exploration
  • Engage school teams in regular data monitoring cycles on MyCAP outcomes.

DELIVERABLES

  1. Updated MyCAP resources and guidance documents planning templates and implementation resources accessible to school and district teams
  2. Project tracking tools and timelines that align with departmental workstreams and monitor progress towards key strategic goals
  3. Partner coordination strategies and resource maps that expand access to CCL experiences particularly in the middle grades and around key student transition and decision points
  4. Increase the number of elementary and middle grades students engaging in MyCAP skill development experiences and artifact creation

Qualifications - Required:

  • Bachelors Degree
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in project management leadership or direct youth-facing programming in one or more of the following areas: early college or CTE pathways career-connected learning postsecondary readiness college and career advising after-school programs student support or youth mentorship or leadership
  • Experience leading curriculum or instructional development that supports student decision-making identity development or pathway planning
  • Strong program management skills including planning resource development budgeting and program evaluation
  • Direct knowledge of and experience with postsecondary advising and planning systems such as MyCAP
  • Ability to work effectively with a wide range of stakeholders including students families educators administrators and community partners especially in urban public education settings
  • Proven ability to design and facilitate high-quality professional learning experiences and technical assistance for adult learners
  • Strong data literacy including the ability to analyze student-level or implementation data and apply findings to improve practice
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail; able to manage multiple complex projects simultaneously
  • Technological proficiency including the ability to create user-friendly systems tools and communications
  • Clear evidence of leadership in eliminating racial opportunity and achievement gaps and the ability to examine systems and policies through a racial equity lens

Qualifications - Preferred:

  • Masters degree in education school counseling curriculum and instruction or a related field
  • Experience in college and career readiness program design implementation or improvement in schools districts non-profits or community-based organizations; relevant youth-facing experience (e.g. out-of-school programs teaching mentorship career exploration programs) is also valued
  • Previous district-level management experience and/or experience supporting multiple schools or systems across a large educational organization
  • Understanding of the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Educations approach to MyCAP state-designated pathways and relevant grant and accountability frameworks
  • Knowledge of Bostons education workforce development and career-connected learning ecosystem
