Job Description

The mission of the Ohio Board of Tax Appeals as Ohios administrative tax court is to provide taxpayers and taxing authorities with an accessible fair and efficient appeals process and to resolve appeals in a timely and judicious manner by facilitating settlement or by issuing comprehensive written decisions which are based upon Ohio statutes case law and board precedent.

The board strives to provide the highest level of customer service possible and has established the following standards:

1. Establish case management schedules at the time an appeal is docketed in the boards case management system

2. Provide real-time case updates via electronic communication to registered users of the boards online case management system

3. While prohibited from providing legal advice to potential or active parties to an appeal the board strives to provide thorough educational content on the tax appeals process and access to relevant forms in an electronic format

  • Admission to Ohio Bar pursuant to Section 4705.01 of Ohio Revised Code and current registration and good standing with Supreme Court. 5 years experience as attorney with Board of Tax Appeals or equivalent in practice of law.
  • Or equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications for Employment noted above.

Job Skills: Attorney/Legal

  • Unless required by legislation or union contract salary will be set at the lowest rate of the salary range with gradual increases in accordance with the Ohio Revised Code or OCSEA/AFSCME Collective Bargaining Agreement.
  • Applicants must clearly indicate how they meet the minimum qualifications. Applicants are also encouraged to document any experience education and/or training related to the job duties of the position applying for. You must clearly identify how you meet the minimum qualifications throughout your application and in your supplemental question responses.

Background Information:

  • The final candidate selected for this position will be required to undergo a criminal background check as well as other investigative reviews. Criminal convictions do not necessarily preclude an applicant from consideration for a position unless restricted under state or federal law or federal restrictions. An individual assessment of an applicants prior criminal convictions will be made before excluding an applicant from consideration.
  • The final applicant selected for this position will be required to submit to urinalysis prior to appointment to test for illegal drug use. An applicant with a positive test will not be offered employment.
