About the program

The Aftercare service is a non-clinical support service focused on providing psychosocial support to people experiencing a suicidal crisis or who have attempted suicide.

About the opportunity

The purpose of a Peer Worker isnt about therapy or having to talk about suicide it is about connecting with someone who has some shared experience of suicidality and recovery. It is focused on empowering people by providing compassion guidance encouragement motivation and follow-up. Peer Workers will support individuals to develop skills confidence and knowledge to improve their wellbeing and community connections. They will encourage them to engage actively with their care team including their Support Coordinator to maximise the benefit they can receive from these services. And at other times they will sit and listen to their concerns joys and experiences knowing that being heard and having someone to share recovery with is therapeutic.

To be successful in this role you will need:

  • Lived experience of suicidal ideation or attempt
  • Ability to utilise your Lived Experience in a trauma informed safe and purposeful manner
  • Effective communication skills with people from a variety of backgrounds including people from CALD backgrounds
  • Highly developed verbal and written skills including the ability to write case notes and contribute to evaluation reports and documents
  • Experience in working with children/young people is highly regarded
  • Ability to build strong community networks utilising grass root approaches
  • Right to work within Australia
  • Current valid Drivers Licence and the ability to undertake some travel
  • NDIS Worker Orientation Module Certificate (free online course)
  • Satisfactory National Police Records Check
  • NDIS Worker Screening Check
  • Working with Childrens Check (Employee/Paid)
