Job Summary

Basic Function

Petro-Canada Lubricants Inc. (PCLI) an HF Sinclair company located in Mississauga ON is seeking a Health & Safety Advisor within the Environment Health and Safety Department. The Advisor is responsible for the Lubricants Plant and as well ancillary facilities such as R&D offices and warehouses as needed. PCLI has a strong safety culture and this position will continue to build upon that strong foundation by coaching line management and providing front line field support for health & safety as well as continuous improvement in processes and management systems. The position reports into the Team Leader of Safety Security and Emergency Response.

Job Duties

  • Building strong relationships with frontline employees leaders and management to help foster and sustain a proactive safety culture
  • Supporting the development and implementation of health safety or emergency response programs aimed at risk mitigation and continuous improvement
  • Assisting with health & safety-related activities across the site such as incident management Job Safety Analysis (JSA) reviews and field visits
  • Contributing to the incident management process by offering guidance and when needed participating in investigations of incidents injuries/illnesses or near misses
  • Staying informed on current and emerging safety and industrial hygiene (IH) regulations and standards and helping to assess their impact and recommend mitigation strategies
  • Participate in a leadership role on the Lubricants Centre Emergency Response Team attending coordinating and stewarding training such as first aid live fire training marine pumper operator and hazmat training
  • Assisting in the management of IH program elements such as contaminant control (e.g. asbestos lead BTEX) SDS system maintenance equipment calibration ergonomics and fit testing
  • Conducting or supporting workplace assessments to identify and mitigate risks related to chemical physical biological and ergonomic hazards
  • Collaborating on Safety and IH work processes within Petro-Canada Lubricants and the broader HollyFrontier organization
  • Supporting Emergency Response and Fire Code compliance activities including drills and inspections
  • Participating in industry initiatives such as those led by the Canadian Fuels Association related to chemical management
  • Respond to various emergencies (Fire Spill/Release Marine) during evenings nights and weekends as required
  • Sharing safety-related information skills and best practices across teams and departments
  • Managing multiple priorities and requests to support timely and effective safety initiatives
  • Taking on special assignments or tasks as directed by the supervisor based on evolving business needs

Experience

  • Minimum 3 - 5 years related work experience in Industrial Hygiene or Safety with preference for both
  • Interpretation and application to the organization for safety industrial hygiene chemical safety Emergency Response ActsRegulations and Standards
  • Experience in an oil and gas environment is an asset

Education Level

  • Minimum Bachelors Degree in a related field (such as BSc in Occupational and Public Health Health and Safety)
  • Professional Certification in Safety or Industrial Hygiene (e.g. Canadian Registered Safety Professional Certified Safety Professional Certified Industrial Hygienest or Registered Occupational Hygienest) is an asset

Required Skills

  • Knowledgeable with safety related Acts Regulations and Standards and ability to interpret applicability to the operations
  • Strong understanding and application of management systems
  • Strong analytical skills with EHS data and metrics
  • Strong understanding of risk assessment and prioritization based on risk
  • Able to effectively advise and use non-authoritative leadership to influence leadersstakeholder groups and external peers
  • Strong analytical and investigative skills to develop effective solutions and recommendations for complex events and problems.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication organizational and relationship building skills

Work Conditions

  • Physically able to climb ladders and carry equipment weighing up to 35 pounds
  • While wearing appropriate personal protective equipment incumbent will enter areas with chemical physical and biological hazards
  • The successful candidate will be expected to work five days per week on-site to support operational needs and team collaboration. Shift-work may be required during times of planned maintenance turnarounds approx. every 2 years
  • Some travel generally within Canada and U.S. is required for functional network meetings or training
  • Extended hours may be required when business requirements dictate
  • Available to be on call periodically as part of emergency response support team
