2026 Program Information

Duquesne Light Company offers summer internships that provide a hands-on meaningful employment opportunity in a supportive setting that cultivates learning and collaboration. Duquesne Lights internship program will provide you with a valuable experience and a solid start to your career in various disciplines.

  • Internships are full-time (40 hours/week) paid and run for 12 weeks (May-August).
  • Internships are located in Pittsburgh and follow DLHs Hybrid Work Model (described below).
  • Candidates must be full-time degree-seeking students enrolled in an accredited college or university and have completed their Sophomore year of studies.
  • Candidates must have at least one semester remaining after completion of the internship/must not have graduated prior to the internship starting.
  • Candidates must be in good academic standing.
  • Candidates must be willing to work the required schedule as defined in the job description.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability through studies employment or extracurricularactivities.
  • Aptitude for problem solving; strong communication skills.

DLCs grid is connected with poles and wires but its powered by people. The companys Human Resources (HR) department is dedicated to supporting employees and simultaneously facilitating a team-centric environment conducive to providing superior service to our customers. HR partners directly with departments across the company on hiring needs training and development benefits and programs and much more for all of DLCs more than 1900 employees.

The Labor Relations intern will assist with research data analysis document preparation and coordination of key tasks along the contract negotiation timeline. This role will help the team stay organized meet deadlines and maintain focus on strategic priorities leading up to and during negotiations.

Education/Experience:

Applicants must be currently enrolled in a BS or MS program in Labor & Employee Relations or Industrial & Labor Relations.

Skills/Abilities:

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Proficiency with Microsoft Office products. Ability to work independently as well as in a team-oriented environment.

Hybrid Work:

All internships follow our hybrid work model with a minimum of two days working in the office and the remaining days working remotely. Interns must be in the immediate Pittsburgh area for the summer. Reporting location and frequency may be subject to change based on job role and department needs.

Other:

Applicants must be able to successfully complete a pre-employment background check drug screen and social media screen.
