Team Leader (Workshop)

About the Role:

We have an exciting opportunity here at Wirral for a highly experienced and motivated Workshop Manager to lead our Engineering Workshops within the Parks & Countryside service.

This is a fantastic opportunity to take on a pivotal leadership role managing a skilled team of Engineering Craftsmen who are responsible for the maintenance repair and replacement of a diverse fleet of machinery equipment and vehicles.

You will ensure that workshop services are delivered to the highest standards of safety quality and cost-effectiveness and play a key role in shaping service delivery driving continuous improvement and supporting strategic investment in our assets.

This is a hands-on role that demands technical expertise strong leadership and a commitment to operational excellence.

As Workshop Manager you will lead technical projects of varying complexity manage budgets and work closely with internal departments external contractors and stakeholders.

You will also be responsible for developing the workforce ensuring health and safety compliance and supporting service transformation initiatives across the Parks & Countryside estate. You will be expected to utilise digital tools and systems for diagnostics reporting and asset tracking to support informed decision-making and improve service efficiency.

About the candidate:

We are looking for a candidate with a proven track record in managing engineering workshops ideally within horticultural or agricultural environments.

You will demonstrate strong leadership capabilities with the ability to motivate develop and support a high-performing technical team and bring advanced mechanical knowledge and a clear commitment to safety quality and continuous improvement.

Your excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills will enable you to build effective working relationships across a wide range of partners whilst taking a proactive and solutions-focused approach to service delivery and problem-solving.

A qualification in mechanical engineering at NVQ Level 5 or equivalent is essential. Additional qualifications in leadership health and safety (such as IOSH or NEBOSH) or project management (such as PRINCE2 or ILM) would be highly desirable.

Experience and working knowledge of health and safety legislation including PUWER LOLER COSHH and vibration regulations will be essential to ensure compliance and promote a safe working environment.
