Job Description

Organizational Context

Position Summary

As part of the Data and Analytics division the System Administrator plays a critical role in maintaining and securing CoREs IT infrastructure. This position supports the delivery of public services by ensuring reliable and secure systems and access management aligned with the values and priorities of CoRE. You will troubleshoot and resolve cloud services related issues analyze and identify performance bottlenecks recommend optimization opportunities and support internal users external clients and applications used in our environment while working closely with other IT staff.

This role is based on site five days per week in our Calgary office with potential for hybrid work arrangements as operational needs evolve.

Responsibilities:

1. Maintain and Support CoRE IT Infrastructure

  • Administer and maintain cloud-based infrastructures and cloud-based associated platforms and components (e.g. AWS M365).

  • Monitor systems performance resolve technical issues proactively and ensure optimal compute and storage capacity.

  • Implement patch management backup solutions and disaster recovery plans.

  • Automate system tasks using scripting tools (e.g. PowerShell Python).

  • Manage user access controls and coordinate periodic access and permissions reviews.

  • Ensure security administration processes are documented and maintained.

  • Support internal and external audits and produce reports for access changes role reviews and reconciliations.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support CoRE IT needs and ensure compliance with internal policies government regulations and industry standards.

2. Support CoRE Security Policy and Audit

  • Enforce security best practices and update policies to protect sensitive data.

  • Perform regular vulnerability scans system audits and forensic investigations.

  • Monitor and enhance cybersecurity protocols and data protection measures.

  • Troubleshoot connectivity and performance issues related to available cloud systems.

  • Utilize tools to monitor user access and platform performance and analyze statistics for continuous improvement.

  • Maintain asset inventory and document configuration standards and procedures.

  • Minimize infrastructure downtime through proactive service improvements.

3. CoRE Priorities Advancement

  • Identify and summarize issues to support team decision-making.

  • Monitor and flag emerging topics or concerns for discussion.

  • Stay informed of current practices trends and advancements in technology sharing relevant updates with the team.

  • Identify opportunities to automate tasks and improve system workflows.

  • Support the preparation of briefings reports presentations and documents for leadership and stakeholders.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Education and Experience:

  • Diploma or degree in Computer Science Information Technology or a related field.

  • 3 to 5 years of experience in system and/or network administration ideally within cloud-based systems and infrastructure.

  • A combination of related education and experience will be considered.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

  • Proficiency in Windows/Linux environments virtualization and cloud platforms.

  • Working experience with AWS products and security standards Microsoft M365 product suite including M365 templates forming templates utilization and automation and administering resource provisioning and monitoring

  • Strong understanding of cybersecurity and data governance preferably within Snowflake database management.

  • Demonstrate strong organizational and priority setting skills coupled with strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Highly self-motivated and able to effectively execute tasks in a fast-paced environment

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills with the ability to work effectively within a team and interact with stakeholders at all levels.
