Position Purpose
Provides strategic and operational leadership in developing planning and implementing all aspects of marketing internal and external communications public relations branding and major events to enhance the visibility and maximize the reputation of uOttawas Telfer School of Management and its various units. Manages the brand digital & events team to deliver individual marketing strategies create publications advertising creative services and web sites while building and maintaining community relations alumni relations student relations and promoting programs and managing key relationships with all Telfer School stakeholders.

In this role you will:

  • Participates in the development of Telfers strategic plans. Leads development of the vision and strategic plans associated with brand marketing events content digital & social media.
  • Defines priorities systems and processes adopting various tactics and methods and establishing key performance indicators to effectively manage workflow and deliver on Telfers priorities.
  • Develops and executes on marketing strategies that enhance the visibility and reputation of Telfer School of Management and its priorities with internal and external stakeholders. Establishes measurable marketing goals and evaluation tools to identify strengths and weaknesses. Ensures that strategies are translated into concrete action plans and that the best interests of Telfer and its units are upheld.
  • Leads the development of strategic direction for Telfers shared digital marketing (web social media new media etc.) team and initiatives and develops medium and long-term strategies to reach appropriate Web-based audiences.
  • Elaborates manages and controls the marketing and communications budget to ensure the optimal use of resources to meet Telfers priorities and goals effectively and efficiently.
  • Directs all aspects of human resources management of team members including recruitment training and development performance management resource planning goal setting discipline etc. Ensures the team has the training and tools needed to do their jobs efficiently and effectively.
  • Provides advice and guidance to Telfers senior leadership on marketing and branding approaches that will ensure optimum results in the promotion of their programs and initiatives.
  • Provides expertise and leadership to execute on marketing communication plans that build Telfers brand reputation alumni and donor engagement using a variety of tactics.
  • Analyzes problems monitors competitive intelligence and internal and external trends to provide recommendations to meet stakeholder needs to advance the Telfer brand aligned with best practices.

What you will bring:

  • Bachelors degree in a related field or an acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience. A Masters degree would be considered an asset.
  • 7 years of experience in a similar role
  • 5 years of leadership and management experience in marketing and communications
  • Extensive experience in the development and implementation of strategic communications and marketing plans including brand & creative services digital strategies advertising and events management.
  • Experience in Human Resources management team management conflict resolution negotiation and project management
  • Seasoned individual with demonstrated ability in problem solving priority setting and meeting deadlines
  • Proven abilities in building partnerships and/or collaborative working relationships with a wide variety of internal and external stakeholders
  • Ability to work under pressure adapt easily and rapidly and use excellent judgment and discretion
  • Commitment to achieving the highest quality results and excellence in customer service
  • Demonstrated initiative autonomy and excellent leadership skills to foster commitment and co-operation within the team
  • Experience in public speaking and public relations
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and communication skills (written and verbal) in English and French

This policy was suspended effective May 1 2022 but may be reinstated at any point in the future depending on public health guidelines and the recommendations of experts.
