ASSISTANT PLANNER
COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT
Part-Time Temporary
Hiring Range: $23.18 to $28.97 per hour
Pay Grade: 107
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Full Pay Range: $23.18 to $34.77 per hour

Position Summary:
This position has high level customer service tasks including coordination of the permit process and providing customer service to the public developers contractors architects engineers and others in person at the counter over the telephone and via email. Performs review of building permits and planning applications.
Essential Duties:
- Provides general planning and zoning permit process information as well as projected time frames of plan review for internal and external customers.
- Process all planning projects track plan review process; and monitor the status of plan reviews.
- Boards Commissioners and Committee (BCC) meeting staff liaison and recording secretary.
- Performs building permit and planning application reviews.
- Researches planning issues and prepares recommendations.
- Responds to public and staff requests for information and research
- Designs and prepares illustrative graphic and narrative presentation materials for public hearings and meetings.
- Answers planning questions from citizens developers and other interested parties.
- Utilizes the Citys mapping programs.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Education and/or Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent required. Bachelors degree in Urban or Regional Planning Geography or related field is preferred; or any equivalent combination of education experience and training which provides the knowledge and abilities necessary to perform the essential functions of the position.
Licensing Certification and Other Requirements:
Possess and maintain a valid Arizona drivers license.

- Knowledge of public request process.
- Knowledge of state and City of Prescott rules regulations policies principles practices procedures codes and ordinances related to municipal planning.
- Skill in communicating both verbally and in writing for individuals and groups.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with local officials architects developers attorneys contractors engineers elected officials City residents and City staff.
Physical Demands and Working Conditions:
- Work is performed in a standard City office environment.
- Safely operates a City vehicle and variety of standard office equipment including a computer terminal telephone 10-key calculator copier and fax machine requiring continuous and repetitive arm hand and eye movement.
- Work is performed in a dynamic environment that requires sensitivity to change and responsiveness to changing goals priorities and needs.
