THE OPPORTUNITY

The Student Affairs Manager will report to the Vice Provost for Academic Administration lead the Student Affairs function under the Center for Student Experience and Services providing a comprehensive one-stop service that supports all student populations. This role will oversee key areas including Student Life Activities the Student Personal Support Office and Student Academic Support Services. The position is central to fostering student retention and ensuring positive student satisfaction outcomes throughout the student lifecycle.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITES

  • Student affairs and wellbeing:
    • Oversee all aspects of student residential life including dormitories housing operations and the Faculty-in-Residence program.
    • Manage the operation and scheduling of the sports complex and recreation facilities.
    • Foster a vibrant and inclusive campus living experience through residential engagement programming.
    • Design and implement mental health initiatives counseling services and peer-support programs.
    • Provide crisis intervention and wellbeing workshops.
    • Partner with academic and administrative units to promote holistic student wellness
  • Student-led Activities and Events; Student Council Clubs and Societies:
    • Support and advise student-led organizations in event planning logistics and budgeting.
    • Ensure compliance with university policies and promote leadership development through extracurricular activities.
    • Serve as the primary liaison for Student Council and officially recognized student clubs.
    • Provide training leadership development and operational support.
    • Facilitate fair and transparent club funding and recognition processes.
  • Work Study Program:
    • Manage the student work-study program including recruitment placement and payroll coordination.
    • Develop guidelines monitor performance and ensure meaningful learning experiences.
  • Student Awarding and Disciplinary:
    • Administer non-academic awards and recognition for student contributions and achievements
    • Coordinate student disciplinary processes in accordance with university regulations.
  • Diversity Inclusion and Belonging Initiatives:
    • Design and lead programs that promote diversity inclusion and a sense of belonging among students.
    • Collaborate with academic and administrative partners to build an inclusive campus climate
  • Student Services & Experience:
    • Operate both virtual and physical student service counters to address inquiries feedback and issues.
    • Manage operations of the campus merchandise store (online and offline).
    • International Student Experience: Provide onboarding orientation and ongoing support for international students; Coordinate visa services cultural exchange activities and advocacy efforts to enhance international student success.
    • Monitoring Student Digital Platforms: Oversee content usability and responsiveness of student-facing digital platforms (e.g. MyVinUni mobile app student portal website). Monitor feedback and analytics to drive continuous improvement.
  • Student Success Management:
    • First-Year Experience (OASIS): Coordinate and deliver orientation and transition programs through OASIS to support first-year student success; Collaborate with academic and co-curricular partners to create a strong foundation for new students.
    • Co-curricular Transcript: Manage the co-curricular transcript platform to document and validate students out-of-classroom learning; Promote student engagement across activities that align with institutional learning outcomes.
    • Coordinate the Peer Assisted Study Sessions (PASS) program
    • Implement advising frameworks early alert systems and targeted interventions to support student retention and progression
    • Track and support students Individual Development Plans (IDP) across academic years.

KEY SELECTION CRITERIA

  • Graduate degree in a relevant academic discipline. Candidates with doctoral degrees and established academic records may be considered for a concurrent faculty appointment within the University.
  • Demonstrated experience with student affairs university life and administration.
  • 5 years of leadership experience in higher education ideally in student affairs.
  • Proven skills in student development planning budgeting and team management.
  • Ability to navigate challenges typical of a new university with patience resilience and collaborative problem-solving.
  • Strong commitment to and experience with inter-professional education at undergraduate graduate and post-graduate levels.
