Sentara Norfolk General Hospital is seeking a Nurse Educator for a Critical Care Stepdown Unit - PVSU (Progressive Ventilator Stepdown Unit)

Hours/Shift: Full Time (40 hr/week)

Overview:

A Nurse Professional Development Generalist is responsible for supporting the ongoing education and professional development of nursing staff. This role involves assessing the educational needs of nursing teams designing and implementing training programs and ensuring that nurses maintain competencies aligned with the latest clinical standards and regulations. The Nurse Professional Development Generalist collaborates with other healthcare professionals to improve patient outcomes promotes evidence-based practice and enhances the overall quality of care.

Department Overview:

The PVSU at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital is an 16 bed step-down unit specializing in treatment of patients on mechanical ventilators. Most patients admitted to PVSU come from an Intensive Care Unit (ICU). PVSU focuses on maximizing the rehabilitation while continuing to treat the cause of the illness. This goal is accomplished through intensive physical therapy respiratory care and mental has a nurse/patient ratio of 3:1 based upon nursing acuity.

The 11-week Transition to Practice program focuses on the orientation transition experience with intentional knowledge support and skill acquisition for practice in IMC areas. For new graduates this TTP program is the start of a comprehensive 6-month residency program to support your transition to practice.

Education

  • Bachelor of Science Nursing- BSN (required) or MSN (Preferred)

Certification/Licensure

  • Registered nursing License (Required)
  • BLS required within 90 days of hire

Experience

  • 2 years of relevant RN experience required
