Job Summary
The Manager of Spiritual Care Services is responsible for the development implementation and integration of a continuum of pastoral and spiritual care services aimed at addressing emotional and spiritual wellness needs as well as the goals and objectives of the department and hospital(s). The Manager is responsible for the administration of the economic and human resource needs of Spiritual Care Services which are available to all patients families visitors and Team Members.
Primary Responsibilities
- Implements UMMS mission and philosophy as it relates to Spiritual Care Services. Acts as role model of UMMS values and HRO principles.
- Provides spiritual leadership and incorporating spiritual religious and pastoral care throughout the UM UCH organization.
- Coordinates all day-to-day department operations including personnel management department meetings volunteer and PRN Chaplain placement scheduling and payroll budget compliance and policy/procedure compliance. Ensures Spiritual Care Services meets all regulatory and policy requirements.
- Consults with the Spiritual Care Services personnel and leadership on all levels and respective Team Members for Spiritual Care Services policy formation program development and strategic objectives.
- Oversees the staffing development evaluation and education of Spiritual Care Services PRN Chaplains and volunteers; provides training documentation in accordance with department and hospital policies and procedures.
- Maintains the Departments Operations Manual and Code Yellow Binder.
- Maintains visit records as required; EMR documentation in accordance with the Spiritual Care Services policy.
- Attends and participates in department management and committee meetings including the Palliative Care Emergency Management EDI and Ethics Committees.
- Collaborates with the Palliative Care Program to assist in meeting spiritual or religious needs of patients and patient visitors.
- Facilitates and provides spiritual or pastoral care ritual counseling or guidance to patients visitors volunteers and Team Members.
- Organizes religious ritual and worship services in creative and ecumenical ways.
- Provides for spiritual or religious needs at end-of-life at time of death and during the post-mortem period. Provides bereavement support to the families of deceased patients as needed.
- Acts as UM UCH liaison to all community spiritual and faith-based partnerships and chaplain organizations. Attends faith-based community meetings as required. Establishes a working relationship with regional religious offices clergy spiritual leaders houses of worships in our service area and ministerium/inter-faith organizations within Harford County.
- Oversees all aspects of the UM UCH RISE Program.
- Performs all other duties as assigned.
Qualifications :
Education & Experience
- Masters degree in divinity or a related theological field from an accredited college university or seminary.
- Four (4) Units of Clinical Pastoral Education (1600 hours) from an accredited program: ACPE (Association for Clinical Pastoral Education) ICPT (Institute for Clinical Pastoral Training) or CPSP (The College of Pastoral Supervision and Psychotherapy).
- Certification as a Board-Certified Chaplain.
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience providing spiritual care in a medical setting preferably with patients families and Team Members.
- Minimum of two (2) years of leadership experience
- Endorsement from ones personal religious or spiritual organization leader.
- Continued Education with emphasis on personal and professional growth and the ongoing management of Spiritual Care Services.
Knowledge Skills & Abilities
- Excellent communication skills especially the demonstration of presence active listening compassion and empathy.
- Knowledge and application of organizational needs mission values and strategic goals.
- Strategic thinker insightful decision maker with ability to analyze and solve problems.
- Skills in leadership coaching mentoring teaching team building and inter-department integration.
- Ability to minister to people of varying religious/spiritual traditions philosophical beliefs and cultural values/traditions with varying physical emotional cognitive spiritual and behavioral challenges.
- Ability to build and sustain cooperative inter-personal relationships with faith/spiritual leaders volunteers and persons of varying faith religious/spiritual traditions and cultural traditions.
- Ability to be assertive yet flexible to exercise the authority of the position and to delegate.
- Ability to lead and coordinate prayer and religious ritual needs.
- Ability to facilitate group processes.
- Ability to speak in public.
- Ability to engage spiritual or pastoral community organizations and houses of worship.
