Job Summary

The Snowmaking/TRE (Total Resort Employee) Manager is responsible for management and oversight of all third-party snowmaking operations at Homewood Mountain Resort additionally the TRE role encompasses oversight of parking and van transportation snow shoveling teams lift ops breaking teams. This role ensures safe efficient and high-quality snow production and TRE systems to deliver exceptional conditions for our guests. The Snowmaking/TRE Manager will guide a team of third-party snowmakers lead a team of TRE employees maintain and optimize equipment coordinate with other mountain operations departments and monitor weather to maximize efficiency while managing resources responsibly.


Duties and Responsibilities

Leadership & Team Management

  • Manage the third-party snowmaking relationship and gather daily reports on snow production to report to the mountain ops team.

  • Recruit train schedule and supervise the TRE team.

  • Foster a safety-first culture ensuring all staff follow safety protocols and use proper PPE.

  • Conduct regular staff meetings and on-the-job training sessions.

  • Manage and become familiar with the new snowmaking project as it is installed in summer 26 onward. (capital project work)

Snowmaking/TRE Operations

  • Plan and manage the TRE schedule in coordination with Base Operations leadership.

  • Manage the TRE workforce to ensure optimal operational function in parking snow removal and operational breaks. Coordinate functions with Base Operations leadership and the Lift Operations manager.

  • Monitor weather conditions snow quality and snow depth to optimize coverage and efficiency.

  • Adjust snowmaking demands in conjunction with the third-party contractor to align with snow needed by the snow surface department.

  • Collaborate with the snow surface manager on grooming coordination to ensure seamless snow distribution and trail preparation.

  • Engage in and or manage the snowmaking system upgrade process during summer 26 onward. (capital project work)

Equipment & System Maintenance

  • Engage to Inspect maintain and troubleshoot snowmaking equipment pumps compressors hydrants and snow guns.

  • Coordinate with third-party consultant teams to ensure equipment reliability and uptime.

  • Engage to understand system upgrades improvements and capital investments.

  • TRE systems may include software tracking solutions shovels trucks and over snow vehicles.

Budgeting & Resource Management

  • Manage snowmaking/TRE budgets including labor utilities and supplies.

  • Track and report on snowmaking performance metrics costs and resource usage.

  • Ensure compliance with environmental and water use regulations.

Cross-Department Collaboration

  • Work closely with Base Operations Grooming Lift Operations and Ski Patrol to align snowmaking/TRE efforts with resort priorities.

  • Communicate snowmaking/TRE progress and conditions to management and other departments via the daily ops meeting.

Qualifications

Skills and Qualification

  • 3 years of industry experience with at least 1 year in a leadership/supervisory role.

  • Strong knowledge of mechanical systems that align with snowmaking systems pumps compressors and snow guns.

  • Understanding weather patterns meteorology and snow science.

  • Excellent leadership communication and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to work in challenging outdoor conditions including nights weekends and holidays.

  • Mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.

  • Valid drivers license required; ability to operate snowmobiles and utility vehicles preferred.

Physical Demands

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.

  • Work outdoors in cold wet and physically demanding conditions for extended periods.

  • Ability to walk climb and work on uneven terrain
