Responsible for posting payments denials and capitation adjudication to patient invoices on the billing system for several or all payment classes including reconciliation for electronic remittances.

I. Major Responsibilities:

1. Posts remittances received in the business office via lock box deposits. Identifies correct patient account/invoice and posts the payment and contractual adjustment (when appropriate).
2. Completes payment-posting process within 48 hours (2 business days) of receipt from the Cash Control Unit.
3. Communicates with accounts receivable staff regarding inappropriate denial codes that require further review via pre-appeal financial class policy for denial codes.
4. Reconciles payment batch posting to the remittance batch total provided by the Cash Control Unit.
5. Recommends procedural and/or system changes based on third party payment trends to Supervisor. Proficiency with remittance advices from all carriers required.

License/Certification/Education:

1. High School diploma
Experience/Skills:
Required:
1. Three years of experience in a medical/cash-processing environment required.
2. Knowledge of third party carrier remittances.
3. Computer skills including mainframe and PC applications.
4. Strong numeric keystroke skills required.

Unless certification licensure or registration is required an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed in this description may be substituted for the above requirements.

Department-specific competencies including age-specific competencies and their measurements will be developed and maintained in the individual departments. The competencies will be maintained and attached to the departmental job description. Responsible managers will review competencies with position incumbents.

III. Physical Demands and Environmental Conditions:

Work is considered sedentary. Position requires work indoors in a normal office environment.
