The Neurology Neurosurgery Unit is a specialized 22-bed unit dedicated to the treatment and care of patients with neurological conditions. Our patient population includes individuals recovering from strokes altered mental status ambulatory dysfunction Multiple Sclerosis as well as a multitude of diagnoses with a neurological etiology. Additionally we provide neurosurgical services to patients in need of interventions as well as general medicine care for the medical surgical patients population. Our nursing staff is committed to practicing at the fullest extent of their licenses ensuring that each patient receives the highest standard of care. The unit is equipped with state-of-the-art technology and follows best practices in neurology and neurosurgery care making it a leader in the field.

How youll contribute

ARegistered Nurse (RN)who excels in this role:

• Coordinates the Patient Care Teams delivery of personalized efficient care with respect for patients spiritual and cultural differences in accordance with the PA State Board of Nursing Licensure requirement and ANA Scope and Standards of Practice.
• Provides patient assessment throughout patient stay and participates in discharge planning while maintaining a therapeutic partnership with patient family and caregivers.
• Initiates and updates individualized patient plan of care (IPOC).
• Adheres to the 10 Rights of medication administration.
• Collaborate with physicians aspart of Interdisciplinary Team.
• Is knowledgeable regarding patient condition completes patient assessment and reassessment reports changes to the Physician.
• Reports patients status and anticipates situations that prevent/minimize adverse outcomes promoting patient safety.
• Implements the interventions identified in the established plan of care and collaboration with members of the Patient Care Team.
• Demonstrates annual competencies.
• Maintains confidentiality of all patients hospital and employee-related information.
• Maintains accountability and productivity for appropriate staffing following the flexible staffing plan.
• Attends and participates as a minimum requirement six staff meetings annually. Reads all staff meeting minutes.
• Maintains proficiency in all aspects of Care Manager/AS 400/Bar Code medication administration.
• Participates in Process Improvement utilizing Lean Six Sigma methodology to improve patient outcomes.

• Demonstrates understanding and knowledge of patients rights and patient responsibilities.
• Actively participates with the development and implementation of unit specific evidence- based initiatives to improve the outcome of nurse sensitive indicators.
• Attends educational sessions as directed by the nurse manager to gain knowledge about new treatment options procedures or equipment. Timely renewal of PA State RN licensure.
• Competency for accessing and reviewing Care Board/Care Organizer completed upon orientation.
• Continuous display of Care Board/Care Organizer at workstation to capture any new electronic orders. Works with Unit Clerk to confirm electronic orders for safe timely implementation into patients care.
• TeleTracking Board (Patient Placement): enters transfers updates comments pending discharges confirmed discharges updates milestones and enters the patient into Patient Transport for testing.

What were looking for

Applicants should have a current state RN license and possess an associates or bachelors degree from an accredited nursing school. Additional requirements include:

Basic Life Support certification is required within 30 days of hire.

CPR Certification

One year of acute care experience or other comparable nursing experience

ACLS certification preferred
