Simulation EducationThe Learning and Design Strategist is a multi-faceted role with varied responsibilities. Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Strategist for Simulation Design Implementation and Impact
Co-create with subject matter experts through all steps of simulation design implementation and impact; from needs assessment to program evaluation guided by evidence-based practices of simulation learning and performance sciences.
Ensure alignment of programs with ZIEL Compass (vision mission and strategy).
Facilitate simulation design with the end in mind through curiosity and diagnosis of ill-defined and/or recalcitrant problems by applying the ZIEL problem-based design thinking approach to create measurable impact on education and care outcomes.
Conduct a needs assessment to ensure that simulation is used when and in a manner that it contributes value to other training and process improvement strategies used by KUMC TUKHS and the constituent programs.
Write learning goals and objectives that align with educational milestones professional benchmarks and organizational quality standards.
Ensure simulation activities reflect clinical best practices with an appropriate level of plausibility and fidelity.
Lead subject matter experts to describe expert performance of the task to be practiced and then deconstruct the whole task into component knowledge skills and attitudes that will ultimately be used to design and evaluate training.
Translate clinical content in ways understood by non-clinical team project members to achieve shared project goals.
Advise on creation of simulation delivery materials including but not limited to pre-learning content presentations handouts instructor guides cognitive aids and post-event survey questionnaire.
Demonstrate a warm welcoming and safe learning environment for all who attend events within ZIEL.
Co-Creator and Instructional Support
Champion the success of co-creators in initial and ongoing development of their skills as simulation designers faculty and members of the scientific community.
Provide at-elbow coaching for faculty as instructor embedded simulation person and debriefer roles.
Model exemplary practices as a simulation instructor and debriefer.
Instruct courses relevant to clinical scope as appropriate to maintain skills and course awareness.
Support co-creators in sharing their insights locally and nationally through professional organizations and scientific community outlets in the form of presentations publications reports social media etc.
Project Management
Serve as a project manager on assigned courses throughout the simulation design implementation and impact process.
Connect analyze and synthesize information from disparate sources for broad awareness of ZIEL programming to consider how decisions impact the organization and to maintain alignment with collective goals of the ZIEL Learning and Design Team.
Communicate and escalate the project plan and actions with clarity.
Coordinate with the other units of ZIEL including the technical operations assessment and business operations teams to deliver exceptional simulation programming to achieve learning goals and objectives.
Exercise situational awareness diligence and attention to detail across multiple tasks with impeccable follow-through accuracy and punctuality.
Proactively identify opportunities and initiate optimization of project workflows. This includes the effective application of technology to achieve enhanced project communication and efficiencies.
Build consensus amongst stakeholders.
Process Improvement
Consult on process improvement needs to inform simulation design that mirrors exemplary care processes.
Align simulation design processes with the work of relevant stakeholders and experts from across campus to facilitate durable transfer of training beyond ZIEL to the real world.
Influence systems policies procedures and protocol development by identifying opportunities for improvement of standard work roles responsibilities and tools.
Simplify the complex through empathy editorial thinking and exceptional communication skills.
Contribute to program evaluation and improvement.
When appropriate contribute to quality improvement and research efforts related to simulation projects as well as the scholarly dissemination of this work through publications and presentations.
General Responsibilities
Contribute to the design implementation and instruction of simulation faculty training courses.
Serve as an ambassador for ZIEL locally regionally and nationally.
Work effectively as a team player by looking for ways to improve individual performance and growth through reflection and open communication.

Required Qualifications
Education: Bachelors degree in a clinical profession education performance sciences or related work experience.
This position requires a formal degree in the cited discipline area(s) to ensure that candidates have advanced knowledge analytical skills and professional competencies necessary to perform the duties of the position. The level of degree is commonly recognized as the standard qualification for similar roles in the public and private sectors ensuring that the university remains competitive with industry-aligned practices enhances collaboration with external partners and supports the delivery of services and programs that meet professional and market-driven expectations.
Work Experience:
Experience reflecting career progression with increasing levels of responsibility.
Preferred Qualifications
Education:
Masters degree in education the performance sciences or a related field.
Work Experience:
Exceptional interpersonal and team-building experience.
Experience as a health care provider.
Experience with simulation-based education in the health professions.
Skills:
Computer skills with Microsoft Office Suite and have the capacity to learn other software as needed.
Communication skills both written and verbal.

Type: Regular Compensation Statement: The pay range listed for this position is determined by our compensation program using market data and salary benchmarking. A combination of factors is considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to education experience and training qualifications relative to the requirements of the position and funding. At the University of Kansas Medical Center a reasonable estimate for the starting pay range will be the minimum to midpoint of the posted range taking into account the combination of factors listed above.
