Te whiwhinga mahi The opportunity

We are looking for a Peer Support Worker to join our services based in the Te Aka Tika programme at Christchurch Mens prison. Some work may also be required at Rolleston Prison.

As a Peer Support worker you will join a team of clinical staff providing a multi-disciplinary approach to working with our client group. Your lived experience with alcohol/drug concerns and treatment will bring a peer perspective both to the staff team and the clients.

  • Delivering education and therapeutic groups within the prison
  • Facilitating aftercare conversations and groups both inside and outside the wire.
  • Supporting a multi-disciplinary team of clinical staff

Ng pmnawatanga u What you will bring

  • Have a journey of lived experience of recovery from Addiction and have been in recovery for a minimum of 2 years.
  • Knowledge and experience of the Peer support model of practice is essential
  • Demonstrated knowledge and application of Te Ao Maori including models of Hauora Uara Tikanga and Te Reo is essential
  • Hold a Level 4 Health and Wellbeing Certificate working towards it or willing to engage in study
  • Have good organisational skills
  • Be a team player

You will be part of a small and dedicated team working across prison sites and a valued member of the wider Purapura Whet and Odyssey Whanau. We provide ongoing training opportunities and relocation support is a available.
