Job Description

We are working closely alongside a Local Authority in Walsall to assist with the appointment of a Specialist Attendance Officer on a 3-month contract likely to be extended at clients discretion. Please apply with your CV for immediate consideration.

Rate of Pay: 15.87 - 21.60 per hour

Summary:

The Specialist Attendance Officer will work within the School Attendance Support Service to improve the attendance engagement and educational outcomes of vulnerable children and young people across Walsall. This role involves supporting schools families and professionals to address barriers to education reduce persistent absence and ensure all children access their full educational entitlement. The postholder will manage a caseload of children at risk of poor attendance disengagement or exclusion and will be expected to deliver direct support interventions and statutory duties to ensure positive outcomes.

Responsibilities:

  • Work in partnership with schools to ensure compliance with statutory duties relating to school attendance exclusions elective home education (EHE) children missing education (CME) and emotionally based school avoidance (EBSA).
  • Champion the educational rights and needs of vulnerable children promoting their inclusion and progression.
  • Carry out direct work with children families and schools to identify issues affecting attendance and develop tailored support plans.
  • Conduct home visits assessing family circumstances and determining the level and frequency of intervention required.
  • Monitor and manage a caseload ensuring accurate timely and confidential record-keeping in line with policies and legislation.

    Requirements:

    • Proven experience working with children young people and families ideally within education social care or health settings.
    • Strong understanding of safeguarding practices statutory guidance and legislation relating to school attendance exclusions CME EHE EBSA and SEND.
    • Ability to engage and build trust with children families and partner agencies applying a child-centred and strengths-based approach.
    • Skilled in case management report writing and record-keeping.
    • Confident in attending multi-agency meetings and contributing effectively to decision-making.

    • This role requires an Enhanced DBS
