Job Summary
This role is responsible for leading guests in a wide range of on-mountain and backcountry activities creating extraordinary experiences while ensuring safety and fun. Guides deliver both instructional and adventure-based programming across skiing snowboarding snowshoeing hiking snowcat and UTV tours and other outdoor recreation offerings. Backcountry-qualified guides additionally lead off-piste and backcountry trips through avalanche terrain.
Duties and Responsibilities
Embody and promote Homewoods culture of exceptional guest service teamwork innovation sustainability and fun.
Lead and guide guests in outdoor activities ensuring safety and enjoyment in all conditions.
Create immersive experiences educating coaching and entertaining participants.
Execute both instructional and recreational programs including snow sports snowshoeing hiking cat skiing tours ATV/UTV tours and select fun & games activities (archery axe throwing cornhole etc.).
Demonstrate and train others in safe practices for all activities offered.
Assess risks and make real-time decisions to maintain safety for members guests and staff.
Safely transport members and guests to and from activities via company vehicle ATV/UTV chairlifts and snowcat as appropriate.
Attend department meetings and training as needed.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Skills and Qualifications
Required: To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodation may be provided to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential duties:
Current AED First Aid and CPR certifications (or ability to obtain prior to start).
Strong skiing or snowboarding ability in variable terrain.
Multiple seasons teaching or guiding skiing/snowboarding and leading outdoor recreation activities.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Commitment to professional appearance positive attitude and guest-focused service.
Must be at least 18 years old legally able to work in the U.S. and meet criminal background standards.
Certifications and Levels:
Level 1 Resort Guide
Professional Snow Sports instruction or coaching (PSIA-AASI USSA USASA certifications or equivalent).
Recreation Avalanche Qualifications (AIARE L1 L2 Rescue Course).
Level 2 Backcountry Guide
Professional Snow Sports instruction coaching or mountain guiding certifications (PSIA-AASI USSA USASA AMGA IFMGA or equivalent).
Professional Avalanche Qualifications (A3 / AIARE Pro 1-2 or equivalent).
Education and Experience
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Outdoor leadership recreation management or related higher education preferred.
Level 1 Resort Guide
2 years in outdoor recreation leadership.
4 seasons teaching skiing or snowboarding.
Familiarity with guided resort and near-boundary activities and general outdoor recreation programming.
Level 2 Backcountry Guide
5 years in outdoor recreation leadership and professional guiding.
Advanced skiing/snowboarding in off-piste and avalanche terrain.
Experience with route planning avalanche forecasting and leading complex backcountry tours.
Experience guiding for snowcat tours and backcountry ski/splitboard tours.
Physical Demands & Working Conditions
Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions including extreme weather conditions including cold wind snow and high elevation.
Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds; frequent lifting carrying bending and prolonged periods of standing or moving.
Ability to hike 25 miles in variable alpine/backcountry terrain.
Ability to work ski/snowboard in challenging conditions.
Long or irregular work shifts may be required including early mornings evenings weekends and holidays.
Comfortable working both independently and as part of a high-functioning team in dynamic outdoor settings.
