The Department of Labor and Workforce Development Division of Employment and Training Services is recruiting for an
Employment Services Technician 1 located in Bethel!

This position is in the General Government Unit (GGU) at a Range 14.


What You Will Be Doing:
The Employment Services Technician 1 (Career Guide) participates in strengthening Alaskas workforce and encouraging economic development by providing career planning services to high school seniors in the Kuspuk and Lower Yukon School Districts. This position requires critical thinking skills presentation and public speaking skills problem solving skills interpersonal and customer service skills and independent work strategies while utilizing a variety of computer databases and software. The primary duties of this position include but are not limited to:
  • Facilitating youth-specific workshops on Resume Writing Interviewing Skills/Mock Interviews Soft Skills Job Searching and Labor Market Information
  • Assisting youth with career exploration to enter the workforce attend training or join the military including providing one-on-one advising by traveling to assigned schools
  • Planning and coordinating FAFSA nights for in-school youth and assisting with FAFSA completion
  • Partnering with agencies employers schools military recruiters other Career Guides and counselors to provide culturally affirming mentorship to high school seniors

The work week for this position is Monday Friday 7.5 hours per day. The position requires travel to rural schools and some overnighting in schools. The Working Environment You Can Expect:
The Employment Services Technician 1 Career Guide is stationed in the YK Delta Job Center 460 Ridgecrest Drive Suite 112 in the Bethel Native Corporation (BNC) Building; our building has free parking with electrical plug-ins and is conveniently located next door to the AC grocery store. This position is customer service driven and involves case management of high school seniors - travel is required to Kuspuk School District and Lower Yukon School District villages.

DRIVERS LICENSE REQUIREMENT
Applicants must possess a valid drivers license. Proof of licensure will be required prior to reporting to duty.

  • A list of three (3) professional references one of which should be your most recent supervisor including name job title name of the employer and a current daytime phone number(s).
  • A copy of your last two (2) performance evaluations. If performance evaluations are unavailable provide two (2) professional letters of recommendation from someone other than your three (3) professional references.
  • A copy of your valid Drivers License.
