Job Skills / Requirements
The Dock Master will monitor all areas of the loading dock ensuring the safety of all persons. This is a customer-service-focused position; the successful candidate will demonstrate exceptional customer service in all interactions.
Loading Dock procedures and Job duties:
- Read communication logbook memos calendar and emails
- Brief with the previous shift and current Shift Supervisor on the days events
- Conduct a visual inspection of the Loading Bay to ensure the areas are in a normal state
- Always position one Dockmaster at the front entrance of the loading bay while the gates are open
- Ensure contractors entering the Loading Bay area have a valid contractor badge
- Prevent vehicles from entering or exiting while people are walking in front of the entrance by using the slow/stop sign
- Direct commercial vehicles to appropriate bays using the megaphone
- Report building infractions property damage or other issues to Shift Supervisor
- Contact appropriate on-site personnel for deliveries if required
- Assign keys and access cards from Dockmaster Office keybox
- Schedule deliveries
- Be prepared to turn away/reschedule deliveries and trucks if needed
- Provide information and directions as needed to public vehicles and pedestrians
- Monitor CCTV system in the Loading Bay Dockmaster Office
- Daily keybox audit
- Aid with parking arms and payments if needed
This position requires the following:
- Ability tomulti-task and remain calm under pressure
- Excellent customer service and communication
- Attention to detail and general security awareness
- Ability to problem solve and make judgement calls when needed
- Fluency in English (both oral and written) and ability to communicate effectively
- Must have prior experience working in a loading dock
- Good report-writing and note-taking skills
- Valid Occupational First Aid Level 1 or higher
- Valid Conflict Management and Resolution certificate
- Valid security license
- Must be able to work 0500-1500 or 1500-2359
Certification Requirements (All)
British Columbia Security License
