We are looking for a self-motivated individual to join our Loan Accounting team who will work independently and as part of the finance team. The ability to prioritize tasks based on importance and urgency and ensuring accuracy while meeting time sensitive deadlines is essential in this position.

Specialist Grade 10: $50557-$74948
Senior Level Grade 11: $55885-$83591

Position is open to placement at either level. Levels are differentiated by the years of experience knowledge and skills and complexity of assignments.

This position is located in our Chico office and requires full-time in-person work.

Position Summary

The Loan Accounting Specialist processes and reconciles loan accounting transactions including booking and retirement of loans while also providing assistance to internal and external customers. Various duties listed under Accounting Specialist duties. The years of experience requisite knowledge and skills of the incumbent and complexity of assignments will differentiate between the levels.

Essential Functions

Loan Accounting (35%)

  • Books short and long term loans and participations into internal loan software
  • Verifies information in internal loan software against legal documents prior to booking
  • Enters interest rate changes or other loan modifications
  • Processes and reconciles participation settlements
  • Processes customer payments
  • Prepares reviews and verifies all disbursement requests
  • Ensures all borrower draft transactions are approved timely before processing in teller system
  • Enters verifies and approves wire and ACH in online banking
  • Enters and verifies borrower wire and ACH agreements
  • Prepares bank deposit using check21 scanner
  • Reviews and balances the daily disbursement and payment transactions and addresses any necessary corrections
  • Reconciles general ledger accounts for offsetting loan transactions
  • Verifies customer requests and setup/maintenance of online banking customers

Customer Service (25%)

  • Answers the phones and assists walk in customers by assessing and interpreting customer needs
  • Responds to customer requests and/or identifies staff member who should respond to customer requests
  • Accepts identifies and processes loan payments and provides receipts to customers
  • Provides various other services which may include loan and funds held advances payoff documentation and ordering drafts
  • Provides customer service to internal customers by:
    • Responding to questions regarding loan accounting processes and procedures
    • Providing information on the status of loan accounts

Account Reconciliation (25%)

  • Reconciles cash and clearing accounts by verifying balances and identifying and resolving discrepancies
  • Identifies and corrects any discrepancies of loan to ledger balances

Administrative Duties (15%)

  • Reviews scans and indexes documents into electronic document storage system
  • Prepares demand letters
  • Paid Out Loans
    • Processes re-conveyances as needed
    • Compiles letters and returns cancelled documents to borrower
  • Settles transactions and balances records for leases and participated plans

Data Security and Confidentiality

  • Appropriately protects the confidentiality security and integrity of the Associations systems and data and clients data

Commitment and Support of Association Mission

  • Understands applies and supports the Association mission and vision statement in a positive professional manner at work and with customers in all settings

Knowledge & Skills

  • Knowledge of accounting principles practices methods and regulatory requirements.
  • Knowledge of accounts payable and loan/lease accounting processes and financial statements.
  • Skill in identifying and organizing resources in a systematic way to prioritize fluctuating workloads optimize efficiency and ensure achievement of Association goals.
  • Strong attention to detail and skill in identifying opportunities for process improvements
  • General knowledge of agriculture commodities and agricultural lending.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (with expertise in excel) computers current software and other office tools.
  • Skill in serving and working effectively with both external and internal customers in a professional respectful manner.
  • Skill in analyzing information and problem solving to formulate logical and objective conclusions.
  • Skill in posting editing tracking organizing and reviewing data/documents with precision and accuracy.
  • Must be able to converse and communicate with customers using the English language.

Qualifications

Specialist
Education: Associates Degree in Accounting or Bachelors Degree in Accounting (Preferred)
Experience: 3-5 years of experience in accounting or bookkeeping

Sr. Specialist

Education: Associates Degree in Accounting or Bachelors Degree in Accounting (Preferred)
Experience: 5 years of experience in accounting or bookkeeping
*or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to perform the essential functions of the job

Physical Demands

Positions in this class typically require: keying talking hearing seeing and repetitive motions. Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally to lift carry push pull or move objects. Must be able to remain in a stationary position most of the time. The employee must be able to prepare and analyze data and figures; transcribe data; understand information communicated via computer screens and in written text.

Working Conditions

Employees work in an office environment with moderate noise levels controlled temperature conditions and no direct exposure to hazardous physical substances. Employees may interact with upset staff and/or public and private representatives in interpreting and enforcing departmental policies and procedures.
