Join the Forest Preserve District of DuPage Countys Landscape Crew as a Maintenance Technician II and help care for the roads trails and infrastructure that support over 26000 acres of protected land.
Work with a supportive team where every day you help preserve nature and improve public access to green spaces through hands-on diverse projects. Build valuable skills using a variety of tools and equipment while gaining certifications in areas like CDL operation pesticide application and wildfire safety.
What Youll Do
- Perform all aspects of landscape maintenance & installation on district land.
- Perform tree planting mulching irrigation and upkeep throughout preserves.
- Install and maintain various types of hardscaping and water features.
- Complete tree trimming and brush removal in colder seasons.
- Operate various types of machinery and equipment such as tractors backhoes mowers chainsaws in the maintenance and upkeep of the Forest Preserves natural resources.
- Support other crews and departments as needed across the forest preserve.
What Youll Need
- Must be 18 years of age or older at the time of hire.
- High School Diploma/GED required 1 - 3 years of related experience or equivalent combination of education training and experience.
- Valid Drivers License in good standing.
- Illinois Class A Commercial Drivers License (CDL) with tanker and airbrakes endorsement within 6 months of employment in good standing.
- Illinois Department of Agriculture Pesticide Operators License within six (6) months of employment in good standing.
- National Wildfire Coordinating Group (NWCG) I-100 S-130 S-190 S-290 within two (2) years of employment.
- Must have and maintain CPR AED and First Aid Certification or obtain within 6 months.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
Schedule Pay & Benefits
- Monday-Friday 6:45 AM - 2:45 PM.
- Safety toe boots required (reimbursed up to $225 per year) and safety glasses required prescription safety glasses reimbursed up to $100 every two years. All other PPE and uniforms supplied by the District.
- Starting at $26.19 - 29.48 /hour.

- Based out of West Chicago IL with travel to forest preserve project sites throughout DuPage County.
- Breaks are taken at the job site.
