Location: Based at Fredericton Campus with responsibilities across Smythe Street and other sites in the Fredericton area.
Salary Range: $26.10 per hour
What youll do
Responsibilities
Reporting to the Facilities Manager Maintenance Repair Worker Lead Hand will:
- Oversee and support all maintenance trade employees including inspection duties instructing and leading staff and helping solve issues when needed. The Facilities Manager is available for guidance and advice if necessary.
- Oversee and assist contractors. The MRW Lead Hand will keep the Facilities Manager apprised of any issues hazards risks or opportunities for continuous improvement as necessary.
- Assist with facilities maintenance of a routine nature involving carpentry plumbing and electrical work; interior/exterior building repair.
- Maintenance of heating ventilation refrigeration and boiler systems.
- Assist trades people on some repair and maintenance work maintaining construction materials inventory and estimating costs of jobs.
- Snow removal and grounds work as required.
- Maintain simple records and reports and assign work tickets.
- Coordinate of allied functions within NBCC. Typical examples of this are: coordinating with the Custodian Lead Hand on events such as graduation or preparations for term start up.
- Investigate requests for repair (maintenance) work prior to assignment/acceptance and assigning of work tickets.
- Orientation of the facility with any new maintenance employee.
- Recommend any training needs of staff to the Facilities Manager when needed.
These job duties require making work decisions independently although work usually follows established methods and work schedules. This position will require shift work.
Regular hours of work are based on a 40- hour work week. These job duties represent only the basic duties of the job. Related and allied duties may be assigned from time to time as they become necessary to the operation of NBCC. Additional overtime and weekend work may be required.

Education & Experience:
- High school diploma or GED with 1-3 years of semi-skilled experience in building electrical and/or mechanical trades; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
- Some experience in team leadership or overseeing a team.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong time management and multitasking skills.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Physical strength and stamina.
- WHMIS certification and Fall Arrest training to be provided by the employer.
Professional Skills:
- Ability to maintain a high degree of professionalism and confidentiality.
- Demonstrated problem-solving skills analytical ability and innovative thinking.
- Self-motivated service and results oriented.
- Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively independently and within a team.
- A desire for continuous learning and growth.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills in English.
- Candidates must possess a valid Drivers License as travel will be required.
Candidates must clearly demonstrate how they meet these qualifications on their resumes.
Other combinations of education and experience may be considered as equivalent. Subject to competition response the minimum qualifications may be raised.
