Salud Para La Gente (SALUD) provides high quality comprehensive and cost-effective healthcare to underserved low-income communities in the Monterey Bay area including Santa Cruz County and North Monterey County. We began in Watsonville 1978 as a storefront free clinic and with the ever growing need for health services in 1992 became a federally qualified community health center (FQHC). Today we are a primary health care network with 11 clinic sites over 390 employees and continue to provide high quality services to patients of all ages.
We are seeking a dynamic organized and detail-oriented Health Records Technician to maintain the overall health record system. The Health Records Technician performs clerical functions within the health record necessary for clinical operations. This position requires the ability to function effectively in an environment where it is necessary to perform several tasks simultaneously and where interruptions are frequent.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
- Responsible for sorting routing and uploading to patient chart all faxes on a daily basis and in a timely manner.
- Upload health records to patients charts and route to provider for review. Identify corresponding open order and link report.
- Obtain requested results and reports from external web portals (SCHIE LPCH etc.).
- Scan documents to patients charts routing for review as appropriate to meet patient care needs. Identify corresponding open order and link report.
- Responsible for uploading scanning and/or tasking providers all incoming prescription requests in a timely manner.
- Responsible for processing and completing health record requests from patients staff and other requestors.
- Responsible for pulling and filing paper health records their safe storage and ongoing purging of inactive charts per the Chart Retention Policy and Procedure.
- Process record requests. Ensure proper authorization for disclosure is obtained and on file.
- Adhere to and follow state and federal privacy laws to safeguard and protect the health records.
- Identify and provide suggestions for improvements to current workflows.
- Contribute to positive team effectiveness by responding to requests for assistance.
- Maintain confidentiality of patient records and clinic business.
- Participate in department and staff meetings.
- Consistently adhere to and/or exceed SPLGs communication guidelines and expectations with patients peers and supervisors.
- Greet every patient with a verbal greeting eye contact and a smile.
- Communicate effectively by using welcoming words proper tone of voice appropriate body language eye contact and smiling in patient interactions. Listen skillfully and display a willingness and ability to acknowledge patient needs expectations and values through the use of reflective listening and empathy conveyance. Respond to patient needs in ways that are helpful and beyond expectation.
- Maintain effective working relationship with a diverse employee patient and business population.
- Adhere to the SPLG Mission Vision and Values standards of conduct and HIPAA principles.

Requirements
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- High School diploma or GED required
- Two years experience working in a health care setting
- Experience with Medical/Dental records applications.
- Medical/Dental terminology proficiency acquired through formal coursework. **
- One year experience with ICD-10 medical and dental codes preferred.
- Able to work in a fast-paced/high demand environment.
- Able to withstand frequent interruptions.
- Able to work independently with high level of accuracy.
- Bilingual Spanish/English required.
** Individuals hired on or after July 19 2017 who have not successfully taken a Medical Terminology class (to be confirmed by proof of taking and passing class with a grade of C or better) will be placed at the Medical Records Technician scale. They will have six (6) months to successfully complete the class with a grade of C or better.**
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Standing walking sitting typing reaching bending moving and/or lifting up to 50 pounds.
